My MacBook is rebelling
I am currently writing on my friend's laptop right now. My Macbook just died on me yesterday morning. It doesn't want to open, and it seems like my startup disk went M.I.A. I tried to install MAC OS X again, but I have no disk on which to install it. When I turn it on, it just goes to a white screen, it does this tick tick tick sound, then it stops on the white screen. At some point, I have this image of a folder with a question mark on it.
Anybody knows anything about computers? Especially Macs? I am panicking right now. Weird thing also, my roomate's computer also went kapoot this morning. She has a Vaio. Something weird is going on in our apartment. I wonder if my other roomate has a problem with his laptop. He's back home at his mother's at the moment, so I wouldn't know.
You should go to the apple forums. they're super helpful. or you can call apple, did you buy the apple care plan?
i'm sorry to tell you this, my macbook did that about a year ago, and it was bc my computer committed suicide. just up and died for no reason. hard drive crashed and everything was gone. I hope it was just my stupid computer and that's not really what's wrong with yours, but the little folder with the ? means it can't find a disk or drive or whatever (i really don't know much about computers) to read and start up with. you might still be able to recover some info though, supposedly there are programs out there for macs that do that. good luck! i really hope your computer isn't a punk like mine!
I checked with a friend yesterday, and I'm pretty sure that my computer has committed suicide. I'm pissed, but at least, I had backed up the most important things on my computer. There's a man I work with who also does some mac work on the side that will open the computer to see what's going on, but I'm pretty sure what the verdict already is.
I am using my roomate's laptop right now, and it works, so I'm sure what was going on with it yesterday. It's just so weird to not have my own working computer , how did I manage to do that for 22 years? I'm so addicted to technology.
And no, Pink, I don't have the Apple Care plan, silly of me. Next time I buy another mac, I'll buy as well.
thank you for reminding me to back up my most recent files...i have powerbook and I am always fearing its death!
;)b
I'm very sorry to say that the first few batches of MacBooks were complete garbage. I owned one, as did several friends, and they all died in the same manner in 1-2 years. Those first revisions are always bad, but lately Apple's quality has went down hill.
I'm sorry to hear about your computer. Macs are not what they used to be :(

I think you get complimentary service for, like, a year (applecare is three)... how long ago did you get it?
A complete garbage mac is still 100x better than a PC!
I have had my powerbook for 5 years with no problems...knock knock

agreed!!
also, i've had my ibook for...3 years now? maybe longer. and it works just dandy. it did go through a spell for awhile when my memory was running low, but customer service was awesome and walked me through fixing it, even though my warranty was waaaay expired. i just ended up getting an external hard drive and now don't let myself have less than 11 gigs on the memory at any given time. worth it, IMHO, because i could not live without my mac.
Hey! My computer is still down, but I finally brought it to the computer doctor. He was supposed to call me yesterday to give me an estimate of what it'll cost to repair it. He must be busy, because it seems these days that a lot of people have had problems with their computer, it's either a coincidence or somebody (or something) is onto us. ;D However, I'm the only one I know with a dead Mac. Oh well... thaT's life.
