My rant of the day...... Sensitive Kentucky Derby and more
Well, I just saw on the news the horse community is very upset (re: the horse that had to be destroyed at the Kentucky Derby). They think the track is too hard and synthetic tracks would be better. As well, the breeding for speed over soundness is something to be looked in to.
The officials said it was devastating and heartbreaking. Shouldn't have happened.
Everything now is bred for profit. Faster horses, more beef on cows, plumper chickens, more pork on pigs. All in the name of big profit and mark my words horse racing may once have been 'my horse can run faster than your horse'. Now all of the above are million dollar industries.
Big business couldn't care less about how their animals are slaughtered and that North America has some of the worst practices in the world. Because money in their pocket is money in their pocket. For goodness sake, a pig is far more intelligent than a dog and yet they are abused beyond belief because they are pigs, not dogs. We would never think of eating a dog. Why not? Meat is meat.
Yes I am ranting because things have to change. I am not saying don't eat meat. I am saying let people care enough to speak out about our horrendous slaughter policies. Contact the government. Show disgust. Speak out.
I am not saying don't race horses because thoroughbreds love to run. Just start breeding them to be more stable and let them run on good surfaces. The news really went on both of these issues tonight. The owner of the horse will no doubt get a huge sum of money from insurance. Oh goodie. They probably did love their horse. With visions of a profit.
I hate animal cruelty in any form. Until the day I die, I will speak loudly and voice my opinions. Until the last lobster is boiled alive in the name of yummy. Until the last pig and cow is prodded with electric prodders and abused, until the last chicken and turkey is de-beaked and forced to lived in un social environments (they are very social creatures..more so than cows), until the last goose or duck is plucked of their down feathers to make quilts (yes they pluck them while alive and I know if I accidentally pull a down feather on Biko, he tries to kill me because it hurts so much)... until all of this ends, I will speak up and defend the animals. Oh, until calves are stripped from their mothers and forced to live in a pen where they can't turn around until they become veal.....
Enough said. I am disgusted with big business. I am disgusted that big business over rides humanity. No I don't eat meat. Yes I understand many do. Just wish the people of the world cared about how their meat was slaughtered, where their down comforters came from and how lobsters suffer.
Not like I don't have leather products ( I do), feed my pets an all natural diet as they are carnivores, we are not. But at least speak out for the voiceless. Show the government you aren't happy with their slaughter practices.
Tell the government that race horses have to have proper tracks.
Tell the government circuses should be banned, aquariums should be banned where whale and dolphins are kept in cement enclosures. Don't swim with dolphins. They are caught in the wild and are very often abused to train them to like people. Dolphins always have a smile. That is what their face looks like. They don't know how to frown. Do not ride carriage horses. Many of these horses are ill fed and lack shade and water. They can also not pull the weight of many hefty cruise passengers (Not an insult to overweight people..have just witnessed many times overweight cruise passengers piling on the buggy with one little horse). By supporting these practices, the cruelty continues.
If you love your pets, please realize that all animals deserve the respect you give your pets. Would you boil you cat or dog alive in the name of taste. Would you electrocute your pet with prods when it misbehaved? Would you take a kitten or puppy away before it was weaned so that it would make a tasty meal. Would you cut the beak off a pet bird for any reason???????
Tell me...would you?
I have finished ranting but maybe, just maybe everyone should think about where their food is coming from and where they spend their vacation dollars when taking a buggy ride, a dolphin swim or an aquarium visit.
Sorry but I am passionate about this. Right now, feeling very bad about the young horse that had to be destroyed at the Kentucky Derby.
Only we can stop cruelty. If we don't speak out, no one will give a shit. Don't hope others care. Many don't. If cruelty is involved in the death, something is truly wrong. I couldn't care less how good food tastes. Torture and cruelty is wrong. Humanitarily wrong!
The next time one throws a lobster in a pot, throw your old dying pet in one when it's time comes. Tit for tat. There is no food on this earth that should involve abuse, cruelty or inhumane treatment.
And yes, I am going to send this to government officials because I am sick of the uncaring of out greedy, over fed and obese population.
Animals were not put on this earth for torture and abuse. They deserve every respect and kindness that we expect. If they have to be used for food, please speak out for them. Better housing, non crowded environments, humane slaughter.
What every one sees in the grocery store was an animal that had a very unhappy life. Why, because Canada and the US couldn't give a shit...as long as we get rich.
Rant is over. Just food for thought.
Hugs to you all
Di
Don't apologize, you have every rights to be passionate about this. Somehow, at some point in history, humans decided that they were going to rule the earth, with no regards with their surroundings. With no regards of the other living creatures. >:( I get really angry when I see injustice in this world. I understand some people won't go vegetarian or vegan, that is their choice. But to make any living things suffer for our own pleasure, I don't see any point in all of it. I don't understand horseraces, or dog races. I don't understand recreational hunting or fishing. We hunted and fished for food before, now we do it for fun, because we don't need it to feed ourselves anymore. The megacorporations in the meat industry will take care of slaughtering the animals for us, so that we don't have to see the sufferings they inflict on them. At least, before, as with Native culture and beliefs, there was respect in the killing of an animal. They did it to feed themselves, for clothes as well. And they understood that they did not rule their environment, as they could easily become the prey of other predators as well.
We certainly live in a world where we should know better.
I posted a link to an on-line petition "Horse Racing is Animal Abuse" on the News & Debate forum. It seems appropriate to post it in this thread too:

Signing a petition seems like a bare minimum thing to do but it's something.
Your preaching to the chore on this website. I think I speak for everybody when i say that we agree with you 100%. There may be other reasons as well, but I would bet that most people on this website are vegetarian because they don't agree with the way animals are treated. I know I don't.
