NVR: top five favorite places

This NVR thread is dedicated to Habanero... ;)  (Please come back---I promise to be nice!)

What are your top five favorite places in the world? It could be a town, city, scenic spot, a room in your house, under your kitchen table, in the arms of your sweetie  ;), whatever...the places where you feel most comfortable and happy.

1. On the trails, anywhere in the Cascades, with my dog. The higher in the mountains, the remoter the trail, the better.
2. Anywhere where there is a pile (or piles) of books. More specifically on my couch or bed surrounded by books and my doggie.
3. Anywhere in Paris (cliche I know, but it truly is a romantic and beautiful city).
4. On the road, in my car, driving through someplace pretty, heading somewhere special.
5. In my kitchen, surrounded by fresh veggies, cooking something healthy and yummy.

Runner-ups: Hanging out on Vegweb.  ;), watching good movies on my couch eating vegan food.

!. In the company of my husband and children
2. In our "observatory" (all season room that looks out onto our backyard habitat)
3. At Whole Foods (how sad is that!  :D)
4. I love my bed, I love my bed, I love my bed (family joke--but true)
5. Anywhere there are lots of trees

Well:

1.  My bedroom.  This is my sanctuary, where I read, listen to music, spend time with my husband, spend time with myself, daydream, and, yeah, this is where my computer is.
2.  My town.  There really is nothing great about this town, but it is far from the in-laws, so there ya go.  J/k, sort of.
3.  Have to agree with the car.  I have satellite radio, plus car seats so I know where the kids are!  Yippee!
4.  My front steps.  We live at the end of a cul-de-sac, in a quiet neighborhood.  We've been landscaping the front, and it's getting very pretty.  When we spend time in the front of the house just relaxing, the kids are in bed, so hubby and I get to just be a couple and talk about what's next for us, or talk about nothing at all.  I love that.
5.  Thrift shops.  I have quite a collection of old pyrex because I love Salvation Army and Goodwill.  Plus, I found this crazy toupee to send to my dad as a joke.  He loved it.  You never know what kind of junk you're going to find.

Habanero was cranky, huh?  Seriously, I don't think it's too hard to avoid the posts that aren't related to food.  I mean, nobody's calling a post "What to do with cauliflower?" and instead the post is about his or her favorite movie.

1. Bookstores/libraries , the older and quieter, the better.  My alma mater had a particularly beautiful, old library.  They've since renovated it, so I don't know how it nice it is anymore.  I hope they didn't ruin it.

2. The streets of New York City .  I love how cities feel alive sometimes.  I only really get that, though, when I'm there for leisure, not when I'm there to work.

3. My futon .  I study, read, eat, surf the Internet, watch movies/tv, talk on the phone, and sometimes sleep on this thing.  When I first moved in my apartment late last year, I had no futon or sofa and would have to sit on the floor or a folding chair to do these things.  I feel like I have a real place to live now.

4. Hockey game .  I have my team loyalties, but any would do, really.

5. Fire Island .  For you Long Island kids - I'm sure you got dragged there too for field trips.  It always had a magical quality for me because there were actually big waves that could probably drown a kid if they weren't careful, unlike the boring sound or bay beaches my family usually went to.  Made my realize my own mortality.  It has a maritime holly forest.  Yes, just like the Christmas plant.  And the forest is kept short because of the salt spray from the water.  How cool is that!?!  There's also a little snack bar that was (for whatever reason) really exciting to me as a child; I'm sure the only things there I'll order now are soda and maybe some fries.

3. At Whole Foods (how sad is that!  :D)

Nothing wrong with that.  I've been to whole foods the last three days straight.  Hell, yesterday I took my laptop was getting recipes off here to buy ingredients and chatting at the same time.  Serious multitasking.

1) In the arms of someone who I love.  It's been a while, but I remember the feeling and there's nothing better in the world.

2) My bed, I'm don't sleep a lot, but when I'm in my bed, It's magnificent.

3) Of late, the Gym.  It just feels good to be making myself better.

4) My grandparents have a farm not too far from here.  The don't have any animals, other than some barn cats, but they have fields that I some times like to just lay down in and stare up at the sky.

5)  My car.  Probably not the most Veg friendly thing to say.  Most people see driving as a chore, a task that needs to be done in order to get from point A to point B. Driving is the most singular experience that I can think of.  It's just me, in control of the machine, and it's beautitul.

Honorable Mention: Whole Foods.  Good god I love that store.  There is a kroger around the corner, and I drove 11 miles to whole foods last night just to get some molasses.

WOW! I *always* wanted to go to Egypt! Never made it there.  :'(
Did you go to visit, live, study there?

I enjoy bumping up my own threads. I'm evil and selfish.  :P

I am going to cheat because I have more than 5.

In no particular order.

1:  Being in the arms of my dear sweet BF.

2:  Cuddling up with any or all of my sweet pets.

3:  Being many feet under the sea scuba diving

4:  Newfoundland, my father's birthpace

5:  The Caribbean or any hot tropical place.  Cozumel, the British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Costa Rico being a few of my favourites.  OK, the Bahamas, Barbados.....Oh my, the list is too long

6:  Live aboard dive boats

7:  Curled up in bed

8:  Outside with a good book and a drink sunbathing

9:  Walking the dog somewhere peaceful

10:  As my place slowly gets renovated, my home.

11:  Spending time with my friends and family.  Love visiting my friends in Michigan and their two dogs.  One of whom Cali has fallen in love with.

12:  Fish Creek State Park in the Adirondacks, in New York State.  Many wonderful memories camping there over the years.  My first dog Mickey went numerous times.  Nugget, my little Maltese went, Willie and Teddy camped there and now Cali is going this summer.  My only regret, Isabela never got to go.

Well I am doing one more....when the three little girls in the courtyard, aged between 11 and 13 knock on my door and ask me to come out and play.  I value and cherish their friendship.  I love seeing little girls still being little girls.  I love that although I don't have children, they still think it is fun to be with me and tell me all their life's little secrets.

Di

P.S.  Maybe some of you have suggestions on how I can make Fish Creek special for Isabela this summer.  I do not want to open her urn and bring any of her ashes.  Maybe another way to make her be part of a place that was so special for me growing up.

I should preface this by saying I'm not a world traveler (yet). So these are the best places I've found so far...

1. Duluth Minnesota -- and all the way up the north shore to Canada.
2. The Old Market in downtown Omaha
3. running outside on any traffic free road or trail
4. St. Cecilia's cathedral in Omaha
5. in a canoe on a lake on a starry night

You just reminded me of something else. I LOVE spending time on the lake on my friend's party boat. We just coast across the lake, shoot the s##t, and drink beer (except the driver, of course). We even saw fireworks from the lake last year on the party boat. It's the BEST way to see foreworks on the 4th!
