The official, amazing, aimless chitchat thread.

So this is where we go to make small talk that doesn't really fit into other threads.
It's the thread with no attention span!

Frequent, arbitrary changes of topic are encouraged.  In fact, they are mandatory.

So, I was just thinking, wouldn't it be awesome to have the decor in each room of your house be inspired by a food?  Like, I was cutting up eggplant today, making my accidental eggplant chips, and I though, wow, this eggplant looks so pretty against this green plate!  I would love to  have a room inspired entirely by eggplant colors.  And then I thought there could be ones inspired by mangoes and apples and sweet potatoes and pretty much any other pretty food.

Hey, a friend of mine made these really awesome mosaics of all her food pictures based on color.  THIS is what I mean:

So, what was I saying?

s'up dudes.  I just got back off holiday yesterday, photos to follow......I take it VW has been freaky whilst I was away.  Either that or no one has been posting because I was away and you were all upset.

--------------
Fan thing above the cooker - I have one and it seems to vent outside.  I hardly ever use it, mostly because I never had one before except for a short while in London, so haven't got into the habit of using it.  I should use it more

Kinda related, I don't think the last people who lived here used the fan thing.  When we first moved in we tried out our heating (gas fan heater thing) and it smelled like curry.  We bought the house of an Indian woman so I guess she cooked a lot of curry.  I am concerned that when we need to use the heater in the winter our house will smell of curry all the time......not necessarily a bad thing if you're actually cooking curry, but not great if you're not.

Just as I was walking across the lounge this morning, I found one of Gary's whiskers.  Huh?  How does that happen.  It was just lying  in the middle of the floor where I regularly walk over and also vacuum.

sup shell. Yeah, it seems that people have been slow to come back/use vegweb since the time it was offline. :'(

a very important update: we, in fact, finished the sriracha in 5 days.

re: gary whisker. it's always really weird finding something like that, because on the one hand it feels so out of place, and on the other hand it brings you back to no, it's not out of place, and the cat should still be here. Yeah.

Shell, my Saul left us about 6 years ago and I still find the occasional hair stuck to a coat or a blanket. It's kind of like a telegram from the other side. At first it upset me but now it makes me smile, it's like he's saying "hi."

This week and next week me & two classmates are on a rotation for "large animal medicine." Today we saw some calves (vaccinations and such) at a local dairy. ... Dairies are generally pretty dirty, with several inches of manure on the ground in the morning before it's flushed out. One calf was down on the ground, being stepped on by another calf. My friend was trying to help the calf up, when the calf started scrambling on the ground, slipping in and spraying the manure, and finally, a wave of manure came over my friend, spraying her face all over. It covered her glasses, and on top of this, she may have had her mouth open at the time. And involuntarily swallowed.

We figured out it'll be about a week before she gets signs of infection with a diarrheal illness.

The calf was fine.

XD

PS: she was teasing me before this rotation that this type of thing would happen to me (it's in my nature, clumsy awkwardness and all). YEAH WHO GOT SPRAYED BY POO. NOT ME
... yet

THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS ON THE INTERNET THAT ALLOW ME TO DO THINGS THAT AREN'T MY HOMEWORK THAT I NEED TO DO BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP.
AND I NEED TO SLEEP AT NOW O CLOCK.
OH LAWDIE I AM TOO AWAKE.
Time for chamomile, catnip, valarian root tea.

ok so I can't quote now >: (

But anyways...fb, it wasn't even that, it was like - how the hell has this whisker managed to stay in this particular spot that is walked over many times a day and has been vacuumed??!?!!!!  Oh, yes, that's right - it's still Gary being her awkward weird annoying self....only in whisker form.

Sarah, voice of experience here---if you really want to be able to sleep, stay offline for at least 90 min before you plan to go to bed. It helps if you leave the TV off too. The flickering screens stimulate your brain--you can't see the flicker, but your brain percieves it and is stimulated.

Maybe Gary's whisker fell off of your clothes there?  I still occasionally find Cat's hairs.  I'd find his hair on work suits that I didn't even own until after he died.  I tell ya ->  CATS!!!  :)>>>

Just in passing, let me say I can understand why people who are sleep-deprived run amok and go on killing sprees. Starting with the person next to them, snoring away.
90 min of sleep should be enough for me, eh?

Sounds good enough yg.

As for me, anything less than like 8.5h makes me feel sleepy. I'm spoiled. But, I can still function if I have around 5h or more. I just don't feel great.
The night before I flew to Nebraska, I got about 1 hour sleep (had to leave at 330am to the airport, was too busy and nervous to go to bed early). So terrible. I passed out a few times on the plane, but kept awaking because I felt that my mouth was agape (I hate that!!). Also, while I had someone I knew to my left, I kept leaning over to my right when I fell asleep. Sigh...

I finally got to log on. After trying for a few days. Silly vw.

I found a job listing for a real frame shop. It's 16-24 hours per week which is decent, seeing as I got 8 last week. I've never applied for another job or had another job and it scares the begeezus out of me because I always feel like every place will just want to fire me. Like if I try to work at a real frame shop they'll not consider much of my experience because I work at their main competitor currently (aside from me being able to give them inside scoops about how poopy the shop is) and I don't even know how to cut frames. Agh. I really want a new job but I always wind up talking myself out of applying at places.

I had 2 cups of coffee and I'm too awake for 3am and I want to sleep but I'm too busy being caffeinated.

Sarah, if you only have the one deficiency (not knowing how to cut frames) they should totally hire you if you're willing to learn. You DO have experience. Just tell them that you're ready to move up in the world and Michaels is holding you back!

I just applied to an archaeology program in Spain. I would be gone from May 11 to June...sometime at the end of June. It's a long time, but I feel like this would be a good experience. At the same time I'm scared shitless to be traveling internationally by myself. And of being rejected from the program. I feel like my stomach is filled with lead right now. Ugh.

Chill. You'll like Menorca. It's beautiful, the climate is mild and it is full full full of English speaking people.
I travelled alone to Spain for the first time at age 17 (just) and I was way more inept than you are. I made it. Of course I loved it so much here I stayed, but hey!  ;D

So Niall has decided he doesn't like seitan.  He also doesn't particularly like tofu or beans.  I hadn't realised how much I had come to love and rely on seitan since moving to NZ.

I think I need to go through the 'what did you eat' thread to find out what I was cooking before we moved here to get some ideas.
It's also dead annoying as I'm trying to up my protein intake at the moment.  Urgh.

I'm realizing that I'm friends with the majority of my friends because I don't have any other friends or I've been friends with them for a long time so I feel some kind of obligation. I don't really like my friends very much.
Weird thing to realize. Haha.
However, my attempts to make friends in the past 3/4 years have lead to one friend who I am good friends with but don't really like too much.

Moral of my ramble : I need to find ways to make friends.

Sheesh.  I'm getting tired of this 'Attack Site' thing.  I just copied all of my favorite recipes from my recipe box to text files because I never know if vegweb is going to be here for me.

Oh man I should save some recipes just in case.
