Problem with sending a "wave hello"

I was going to send a "wave hello" to patel81 (the poster who's only post has been the one about physllium hulks) so (s)he'd feel welcome. But when I type that username something (I assume its the program) replaces what I've typed with some sort of commands and then it can't find the word put in as a user, of course. I tried several times and everytime what I typed was automatically overwritten. Someone please try it so we know if it's not just my computer doing it. I doesn't happen anywhere else but the hello wave area of this website.
OKay, same thing. That's weird!
Thanks for checking. Oh, Yvette, we have a problem.
No problem. ;)
Give it a shot now and let me know if it works.
Yvette
Hey, T- Just tried waving to you. Did it work? It worked just fine on this end...
Yvette- I tried typing in the user name. I got a few letters in, then the <other stuff> came up again.
I am not at all convinced that Patel81 is a real person. One post, with no conversation...I may be paranoid, but given the code thing...maybe a bot.
Let me try typing you in, Yabbit...
Nope, did it again.
Sorry it took me so long to get back to y'all. Our internet here at work was down. Usually it's the student info system that goes down and the internet is still accessible so I use the down time to check in here. Today I had nothing for a couple of hours. Arrgh! The wave hello is working!
There was a javascript error which is now fixed. I think it was the cause of the problem, but let me know if it happens again.

I also wondered this.... when one person starts a post who has never posted before and doesn't ask a question but lists the benefits of something it seems like an advertisment.
