Reasons to frown

Ok, so we have a smiling thread. This thread is for all of the little dumb things that make you frown, or angry, or sad, etc., etc.
I'll start. I had chili for lunch today. I brought some crackers for the chili and a banana for breakfast. THE CRACKERS ABSORBED THE BANANA FLAVOR THROUGH THE BAG, SO I HAD BANANA FLAVORED CHILI FOR LUNCH! >:(

I can not help but wonder at times what we are thinking when we bring rats home as pets. They have such short lives and we know it going into having them. The last several I had were retired school pets and from the humane society so they were not babies to begin with. DH joked that we needed a sign outside our front door labling our house as a "home for geriatric rats". we have not had any for a while now because we would not trust our one cat to leave them alone. I do miss them.
Semiveg, I feel the same way about parents who get hamsters for their kids. First, a lot of cage-bred hamsters can be aggressive. Plus, the ones here in Spain live a maximum of 2 years, usually less, and before the end they develop tumors etc. which is very upsetting for the child. My beloved Saul's vet was the only one I ever met here that wouldn't do all the expensive tests and "treatments" just to make money. He would actually tell parents the score, and tell the child in a gentle way...and suggest they try another pet.

Concider yourself lucky! I have met more hamsters who tried to take a chunk out of me than ones who have not. Usually, I am pretty good with animals, only hamsters seem to have it out for me.
for those of you who care and who aren't friends with me on facebook.....we unfortunately had to have Gary put to sleep last night.
I had posted some details about her down turn on the pet thread but that's now been deleted. I will cry to much to post more here, but thought some of you may be vaguely interested.

I thought my roommate and I had a talk and came to an agreement that we were not going to have sexy time sleepovers.. ef that, last thing I want to be woken to.
I was wondering about Gary during the downtime; I'm sorry that what I feared was true. My heart goes out to you, Shell.
I'm sorry to hear Shell =( I know it hurts now but it'll get better, as cliche as it sounds try not to be too upset, Gary wouldn't want that. Although I know how you feel, I found my cat had passed away while I was out of town, honestly, part of me hasn't ever gotten over it but I know my fur baby wouldn't want me so sad. I'm keeping you in my thoughts :)

thanks to everyone for their kind words - both here and on FB. It's getting better every day, but I still expect her to come running when I open the front door, or expect her to jump on the bed during the night. I know it will take time, but I'm not crying all the time now.
I got a call from the vet to say that Gary is back with them and I can go and collect her ashes whenever is convenient. I cried my eyes out after that phone call - I guess it made it more final.
I feel bad that I don't have time to go until Tuesday. I know it's only her ashes, but I feel like I'm abandoning her there.
