Reasons to make the O_o Face
There are times when you read, see or hear something that just makes you :o. This is the thread to share them on!
The other day I don't know where I stumbled on a thread discussing the Nancy Drew novels. I remembered how much I loved them and I did a little research...which led me to the original publishers, who also published the Hardy Boys and the Bobbsey Twins. All written by a cadre of ghost writers under cover names. Then I found a link to an audio book of one of the Bobbsey Twins stories, which I loved when I was a kid. I listened to it for old times' sake. The :o happened when the author described little Flossie-aged-four's collection of dolls, among which was a black Sambo doll given to her by the family's "coloured cook Dinah, and her husband the stableman, Sam." Who had "excellent rooms above the stables." They had given her this black worsted ragdoll (named Jujube) which she kept with her other dolls..."but apart, at the other end of the shelf, and with a nice piece of white pasteboard in between--because, well, he wasn't really family."
:o :o
The story goes on to state that Flossie had thought about giving Jujube away but didn't want to hurt Dinah's feelings; "and after all, as Mamma said, there weren't any doll hospitals for black orphan dolls."
No wonder the Bobbsey Twins books went out of fashion. Nancy Drew is still available today...but then there was nothing like that in them.
So, VWers, what made you :o today?
LMAO! That picture is hilarious. Thank you, savvyidler!
Last night, I saw a commercial for last night's news program. They said, "these people can remember every day if their lives. What can this tell us?" :o :o Umm...I don't know about you...but I'm pretty happy not remembering every day of my life. I'll pass, thank you.
People who have the inability to forget eventually go mad. True Story.
The movie "Knowing"
Holy cheesy suspensefulness!

I can vouch for that. It's bad enough in here as it is. DH says I describe certain headaches as "noisy."

Wait, is that the one with the time capsule and the dates and stuff? Oh lordy lordy.
haha yes! the music was the only thing that made that movie slightly nerv-y.
Yeah there was some creepy stuff- I get spooked easily- but what a cheesefest! I kind of can't believe I watched the whole thing. It was my bf's idea. At the end we were just looking at each other, like, "wtf...?"
hahahaha yeah. that's a pretty accurate description. I watched it alone yesterday (free OnDemand) and i wish i watched it with someone just so i could have that "wtf?" exchange. But I swear even my dog was like "...the hell??"
LOL nice to have such an astute dog!
lol he's quite the human-dog
I have been told by several people this past week that i am taking things too far with this veganism thing. what does that mean?! just b/c they wouldn't do it??? i think that i am doing fine with it...

And these are the same people who would tell you just exactly where to go if you dared offer your opinion on their choices... ::)

lol yup! i got that all the fucking time. my dad told me i was a suicide bomber because i'm a vegan
my mom used to tell me I was 'taking things too far' too but i think she got over it and just accepted it. I think people just need time to get over their ignorance.
most definitely
this last one was over me reading ingredients on a bread label after my friends mom handed it to me and asked if i could eat it... i said "nope! there is honey and milk products in it" they all think i am taking it to far... but i feel so much better with that crap outta my system. and yes yg! they really would tell me where to go... i am not a pushy vegan, i will show them by my health and energy and poke their curiousity. :)
DH ordered something that was supposed to be delivered a week ago. It required a signature. Normally, if you're not home to sign for the package, the PO will keep it and give you a slip in the mail box to let you know it's there. We never got a slip. DH looked up the tracking number and made a lot of phone calls and eventually someone told him it was at our local post office. So I went to pick it up, and they said if we didn't get a slip it meant they didn't have it. I told them the tracking number said it was there, so he took the tracking number and disappeared. He came back with the package (a giant box with our last name written in big letters on the side...kinda hard to miss), and the postman had written on the side that 1) they gave us a slip, and 2) that our house is a 'deceased estate' and had a For Sale sign up. Wtf? We have lived in this house for 3 years, and no, we are not selling. No one on our whole street is selling or has recently sold their house. And no, they did not give us a slip (why would they give a slip to a deceased estate anyway?). We have had several things delivered in the past couple months with no problems, so I don't understand why this one item didn't make it and why the postman would lie about our house being a deceased estate/for sale. Maybe they were trying to steal the package.
Lucky we had a tracking number, otherwise we would never have gotten it.
that is so frusterating pg, i am glad you eventually got your package, and good thing your hubby was able to look up the tracking #
UPS did that to me. I ordered firewood racks from Brookstone (DON'T order from them). They're supposed to guarantee the order, but they didn't.
UPS delivered the package to the wrong address. When I didn't receive it, I filed a claim (at which time they said it was delivered). The claim protocol is for the driver to go to the person's house within 30 days and either talk to them in person or leave a slip on their door noting their attempt. Within that 30 day time frame, they're supposed to make three attempts / leave three slips. I didn't get any slips, so I reactivated my claim at the end of the first 30 days. No one spoke to me or left a slip during the second 30 days. Finally in the third 30 days, I called to follow up and a supervisor at UPS told me that the driver resolved the complaint by talking to me and I acknowledged I received the package. Only I never received the package OR got a slip on my door OR talked to the driver. I threw such a fit it finally got resolved, but it took three months to get the racks.
Moral of the story: Brookstone SUCKS and UPS lies.
I had a hell of a time getting my insulin pump from UPS. I got my first one at my doctor's office, but my second was supposed to shipped to my house. We spent an hour in the UPS warehouse place on the day I was supposed to be trained on my new pump. They found it. Witih my mother there, the guy either would have found it, or my mother would have made him produce one right there.
Note to self: never use UPS. :o
