Reasons to smile
I guess not everyone needs to find a reason, but... What made you smile and/or laugh today?
My first LOL of the day was caused by this LOLdog.
I went to the uniform laundry room at work yesterday, to ask if I could try on a size smaller in my trousers. And they fit! The laundry lady asked me if I needed a new shirt, too, so I tried the next size down in that, too. And it fit! Wow. My pants had been slipping down my hips a little for weeks, but last week they got ridiculously slippy. So happy to have confirmation that my body's changing shape/size a little. :iloveyou:
Humming along to the occasional good song at work... it's amazing how much it can lift my mood. ;)b
Overhearing customers' reactions when they can't decide whether flowers are real or not. It's hilarious either way - when they think fake are real, or real are fake. ;D
My RTS: The oven and stove are finally working properly...had to get new ones. Christmas goodies are assured!!
And one of my students is a...beauty consultant, I guess you'd say...facials and that...makes mongo bucks...and she brought me (free!) some stuff that has cleared up the itchy excema on my face!! I dunno how long it will last but I feel so much better!! It's apparently natural stuff, and smells wonderful, of rose and elderberry and something else.
She told me off for the Lush face wash I bought and said it was absolutely the wrong stuff for me to use on my face (it's for oily skin and mine isn't) so I gave it to one of my students, since I'd already dipped into it a couple times. Sort of a Christmas present.
josh- awesome! i need more fruit in my life
yabs- thats awesome!!!
$30 worth of fruit on the Oregon Coast equates to three apples and a quart of blackberries. True story.
RTS: Haven't lost my job yet, and because of a clerical error, I was awarded a special trophy for being the Top-Contributor in the Northwestern Region in the 4th Quarter of 2011! That comes with a $50 bonus American Express Gift card, which I will hoard away in anticipation of the great paycheck famine of 2012! YES!
wow, that's quite a turn from worried about being laid off. woo!
OK, so I've worked with a perpetual student for the past 6 yrs or so. He isn't a "professional" (ie degree-laden) student, he just doesn't finish the work or sit the exams.
He finally (after 3 different semesters) sat the 4th year Jacobean Drama exam. And failed. JUST failed.
So I told him to go to the prof and ask him why, since he knows they're eliminating that course anyway next year, he failed him for four tenths of a point.
Dude decided that yes, he could pass him after all.
That's twice I've had to call that particular prof out--once was for failing a student because (according to the prof) there aren't 2 characters named Beowulf/Beow in the poem.
There actually are, and I proved it. Not just me, but NYU's website also. Obviously I'm no one, but I gave the student the info and we proved the point and got the pass.
(Don't mess with a literature geek, dude. It may be your job, but it's my life!)
Good work, yabbit. I bet your help meant the world to those students.
I was going to head up to Columbus, Ohio tomorrow to see people who claim to be my friends. I was going to kick-off the I'm Leaving Ohio (Hopefully For Good) Tour of 2012 so I sent out an alert to everyone. Only one person responded. She's going out of town.
Understood. For everyone else - I tried. They bitched and moaned that I left for Oregon last year. Now, I ask to see them before I leave and nothing. I'm sick of users, abusers, energy vampires, and those who take advantage. I'm sick of it and I'm done with it and that makes me smile.
I smile because I got an awesomely beautiful postcard yesterday from Ms. IdrilAsphodel.
I smile because I'm 1.5 weeks away from Oregon!
I smile because I got to talk to Ms. Storm on the phone....even if her reception was crappy. :P I kid I kid.
I smile because I've been listening to a lot of The Black Keys annnnnd they're going to be in Portland in May!!!!

I'm smiling because Joshy is 1.5 weeks away from Oregon (but I'm not smiling about my shitty phone reception) and because I had a fabulous day working at The Looking Glass yesterday.

Hahaha! :) I kid you, Storm.
This is old news but because VegWeb was down when it happened, I'll share now. A couple weeks ago, my family and I went to the local Walmart. I made my way to the electronics area, found an abandoned surround sound stereo, plugged in my iPhone, cranked my own music and I danced!!! I didn't dance the full 20 minutes but I did crank my music for 20 minutes.
It was great. A couple times I heard on the radio, "could someone assist....." I couldn't hear if the staff was being called to "assist" me or what. You know - where the employee comes up to you and asks if you need help but they either want to:
1) Sell you something.
2) Destroy your fun by distracting you which ultimately destroys your party you've created by turning their display models against them.
3) Both.
None of that happened and I cause a scene. When I'm in my moment, I love making a scene.
:)
We are starting to crawl out from under the technological crap-storm.
I managed to fix the printer all by myself (realigning the print heads, something I didn't even know you COULD do, let alone that I had done it).
I took the ebook Jose got me for Christmas back, and they gave me a new one with a minimum of fuss. They made me keep the old adapter cable, but that's probably not the problem. A defective adapter cable wouldn't mean you couldn't turn pages or set the clock or make it "hang" after 15 minutes of use.
My computer picked up an Anti-Macaffee virus and my ISP customer disservice admitted they couldn't help us, even though THEY are the ones who provide the Macaffee online. So the tech is coming tomorrow to get me something that works, and we can save about 200 Euros a year on a security pack that doesn't.
A new student called today. A nice person, I think, who lives literally about 6 blocks from me.
Great great, Yabbit!! So good to share smiles with you once again, dearest girl of Yabbitonia. :)
I'll probably be the only one smiling on this one - per my interest in certain bands and certain styles of music, iTunes has suggested a pre-made song list called "New Hippie". Haha! Me? A hippie? It's great, though.. I'm listening to the suggested songs and I love them.
Somebody reviewed my Beet Hummus recipe and liked it!
I'm either 10 or 11 days without sleeping pills....in all the exhaustion I've lost track, but it is totally a reason to smile. I may be tired, but I haven't thrown myself under a bus yet and I haven't reached for the bottle of little blue pills once.

Storm, you totally rock!!
You can do this. You're setting a new endurance record every day.
Such class.
I will not say that glib thing about "you'll eventually get tired enough to sleep" because I know that's not how it works in all cases.
I will say: I admire you.
Love,
YG
I smile because of my 1.5 hour 4am phone conversation. :)
dear grandson, 14 mo's favorite toy is a shoe string. He will swing it and hit the ground a few times to "call" Spazcat and then run with the cat chasing the string. If the cat gets a claw stuck, DGS stops, drops the string and lets the cat detach himself before running again. He is starting to understand Laura is a much calmer cat and will play with the string if it moves slowly. He gets impatient though so it is not working as well as with Spaz.
Hahaha!! Love it, semiveg! :)
I've lost 4 lbs since the beginning of the year and when I stopped to think about over-all how much I'd lost, I've lost 57lbs in under two years!!! I nearly fainted when I realized that! :o :-D ;)b
http://bestsmileys.com/fainting/1.gif <---me
my goal is 60lbs just this year, I know that sounds huge BUT eating 1600 calories of whole foods I should hit that by november by my calculations, but honestly I'd be happy with 30lbs =D
Woah woah woah!!! Ms. faylinameir!!! That's soooo awesome!! Congratulations to you!! Keep up the awesome work! :D
And, no, I don't apologize for the overuse of exclamation points! 8)
