Recycle your plastic bottle caps!

In most cities, you are supposed to remove the plastic caps from your bottles before placing them in the recycle bin (and put them in the trash!). I hate throwing them away, and I have been saving them for years. I have a friend collecting them for a project at the moment, however, I just found out that Aveda will recycle them! You can just bring them into any Aveda Salon!

Now we can feel less guilty about buying them in the first place (although not buying them would certainly be a better route).
:) :)
I've always just thrown them in the recycle bin....I don't think I was ever instructed not to, but oh well.....they've never yelled at me for doing it...at least not yet....but I always wash everything out before I toss it in the bin - some people don't
I used to even remove the labels off of things, before Andy told me I didn't have to.....
if you are putting them in the bin, they are most likely either being removed by people and then put in the trash, OR if they don't have the labor to do that, they might just throw away the whole bottle!
You should ask your local trash/recycle people. It is very unlikely that they recycle them.
Well, I always throw them in separately....I don't put the lids back on anything, so they can air dry....
We have a recycling sheet that tells you what numbers are able to be recycled, that you have to rinse them, etc. and it doesn't say anything about removing caps...
Call and ask...I bet you are supposed to remove them. Let us know! The caps are not the numbers that can be recycled.
Hey, thanks for posting this, I had no idea Aveda would recycle them! It's always bugged me, too...I'm one of those obsessive recyclers that inspects every little thing before I throw them in the dustbin ;D
That's absurb...we recycle the whole bottle here...

Again, I encourage you to check with your local recycle center and see if they are actually recycling the caps. Just because you put them into your bin does not mean that they are being recycled. It is very rare that they are.
Another plug for Aveda: when I used to work at an environmental non-profit, they'd sponsor our beach clean-up day.

Cool! And their products are plant based except for the occasional use of honey.

I've looked into it, they do recycle them.

Go Canada! We'll get there....someday. :)

Absolutely...here in S. Spain they know darn well if they had all those rules about rinse and dry, remove labels and caps etc, no one would recycle anything. It's hard enough as it is to get people to do it. They are flat-down lazy and don't give two hoots (or even one) about the environment.
if they're the type of plastic caps that one can find on half gallon containers of soymilk - just give them to your cat. some of my cats love chasing those plastic things around!
I askec my father about it. He said that if they don't recycle a part of the container, our people won't take it at all. He brings the bins in, and he told me that they'll leave behind things that they don't want. They don't just throw them out. Like pizza boxes are just not taken because of the food residue.
I have about 25 bottle caps saved up that I'm just going to toss in the bin to see if they are taken. If not, I (might) know where there's an Aveda.

that is great idea, but my floor would be nothing but caps! ;D
I just bagged a bunch and gave them to a girl on freecycle who is making a mosaic out of them. I might try the same!
