Remember 80s Fantasy TV and Movies?
Netflix has Jim Henson's Storyteller on instant. Oh, I love this TV series so much as a child. Love it even more as an adult. Then I started to think about similiar programs during the 80s. I was very, very young back then so my memory is a bit sketchy. There was an animated series on Nickelodeon about lesser known fairytales. Also, I think it was HBO or Showtime that had well known stories done by famous actors. There was one with Christopher Reeve in Cinderella. Use to see it in VHS in Blockbuster years ago. Having a hardtime tracking it down. HBO also had an animated/claymation series of world fairytales in the 90s. Of course, Ducktales and Gummybears were very good. Miss those cartoons.
Does anyone remember anymore? Perhaps there is some clips available on Youtube.
oh man! Duck tales was such a good show. I recently found some old journals I wrote when I was in kindergarten/the early grades, and one entry is about an episode of Duck Tales where Gosline turned into a slime duck. hahaha. (I have no recollection of this now).
As for movies, of course the princess bride, willow, the last unicorn, watership down, the secret of nimh, the goonies...so good. I still watch these movies.
Fairytale Theatre was fun...the costumes and scenery were cool and the script was hysterical. I enjoyed it because it was so tongue-in-cheek. One of the first videotapes I bought was their version of "Snow White" with Elisabeth McGovern in the title role. I think she was pregnant at the time, which explained her peasant dress--but it still showed a noticeable bump sometimes!
