sarcasm, and an interesting discussion by a peaceful fire, with a cup of tea

God I hate those fuckers........
seriously though, this is just me being a smartass.......but most of us were all vegetarians and such when we were "less enlightened"
more jokes?
Vegetarians are cool too. :) Some of you guys need to take a chill pill I think ;)
Pshaw. Welfarist.

I suspect the chill pill has dairy in it
My two cents:
When I was vegetarian and not yet vegan, I thought it was REALLY stupid and hypocritical for people who had been vegans for a short time to call me, a vegetarian of 9+ years (at the time), a hypocrite just because I ate some dairy. Because hey, I'd been doing SOMETHING, back when they were still in diapers AND eating flesh like there was no tomorrow.
9-year vegetarian > 4-month vegan.
Odd experience of mine, I had a friend who worked in a slaughterhouse in his younger years who was vegetarian.
Now, I wonder why he never went vegan, but back then I did not question it. I think there is a series of connections that have to happen for each individual on their own to connect animal cruelty to meat to meat by products to household products to clothing to to health impact to local impact to world impact. Now, I know not all people go the same way to reach the same conclusion. Heck, I am sure that many people disconnect during the connections as well! Which is how we end up with 'ex-vegetarians' floating about.
I always wish I had kept in touch with that friend, but online friends are like that sometimes, ya know? Some you know and get close to enough to call or visit and others you simply don't ever get there and they (or you) drift out of each other's lives. :(
Sorry, back to your regularly scheduled tea and sarcasm!
Sheesh. Some of y'all have issues.
Just remember... vinegar and water is a perfectly vegan combination. ;)

:o Its a trap!!
That said, I don't think that it makes me a better person than non-vegans. It just means that I think that this particular choice that I have made is a better one. There are so many people in the world who are better than me in so many ways. This one thing doesn't make up for all that.
Well said, veggydog! I totally agree with this. There are things that I do to try and make the world a bit better (vegan diet/lifestyle, rescued strays, recycling, taking reusable bags to stores, riding my bike/taking the bus instead of driving a car, donating a few bucks here and there to orgs. that I think are great, etc.), but there are tons of people doing wonderful things (volunteering at shelters--human or non-human, giving a large portion of their time and/or income to helping others, etc.) that I don't have time/energy/the drive to do right now. I think it's important to not create a hierarchy of "goodness". I would be pissed if someone thought that they were a better person than I was just because they volunteered 30 hours a week at a homeless shelter and donated $100 a month to the American Cancer Society while I am just a lowly vegan w/ a small carbon footprint and a love for animals. It's about priorities, and they differ for everyone. While I prefer to spend my time/money helping non-human animals, others are inclined to partake in activities to improve human lives. I don't think that one action is better or worse than the other or that I don't care about humans or others don't care about animals. Life is too short and there are too few hours in the day to do everything to help every creature, so people pick and choose what would be most fulfilling and do-able for them.
Wow, that was a bunch of rambling... :-[

kbuettne, methinks you've hit it on the nail. I wish I were as eloquent as you, to say what you've said. Yay for vegan compassionism. :iloveyou: :cow: :pig: :chicken:

Eloquent? Ha! Did you SEE my post about butt skin? Now THAT'S eloquent! ;D
On another note, I like how the :iloveyou: :cow: :pig: :chicken: reads off as "iloveyou cow pig chicken". That totally cracked me up for some reason ;D ;D
...Sometimes I can be like a new puppy still learning about computers. Maybe you'll overlook my flaws and let me remain on the good side?!?

I think she was referring to the late great StarTaurus, who used to write every post like this:
"yadda yadda insert comments here yadda ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D yadda yadda insert more comments here yadda ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :D :D :D :D :D and finally last coments yadda yadda"
She was overzealous with the smileys, and I think your puppies triggered fond memories, VegJerRyan.
;D ;D Thanks for clearing things up, Amanda! For a while there I was wondering if maybe she was, in some "polite" or short way, telling me to " :stfu: "(!)
