so if you were on a deserted island...

What three foods would you like to have an unlimited supply of if you were stuck on a deserted island?
Purely taste-wise, I do believe I could live on fresh pinapple, avocados, and homemade mexican rice...
Hmmm... flaxseeds, definitely. Then, probably oatmeal. I love oatmeal. (I guess on a desert island, it's probably too hot for oatmeal to really taste good... I'd just wait until it was chilly at night to eat it I suppose.) Veggie wise, it would probably be peas. These would be my three picks if just considering nutrition staples, and probably taste-wise as well.
Of course, I'd keel over from a lack of B-vitamins pretty quickly, so I guess a smart person would bring nutritional yeast instead of one of the above three. (Lucky for us it's high in protein, eh?) But I'd probably have to abandon the oatmeal if this were the case, and I don't think I could manage. :P
Oh, I just realized that you were also meaning entire meals, not just staple foods. In that case, a really spicy chickpea curry, whole wheat bread, and broccoli/tofu stirfry. Yum.
I hope this isn't supposed to add up to any kind of nutritional balance!
Popcorn, chickpeas, and mangoes!
But I'd be tempted to visit your islands for oatmeal and bread, fresh pineapple and avocadoes... mmm. :)
For as long as I should live there, there's nothing General Tao, Vanilla Silk, and Good & Plenty can't handle.
1) Mangos from Peru (esp. the green ones)-Oh...My...God...they are AMAZING! :P
2) Chickpeas
3) Macintosh Apples (unfortunately I love the ones from Upstate NY (not organic :( ) so I never really get to eat them....sigh
I'll add a favorite beverage besides water...pineapple juice...delicious!
Hey Duckalucky we have 2 of the same. Great minds think (or eat) alike ;D
Potatoes, Tomatoes, Bannanas.
Fresh fruit and veg galore (saladings especially!)
Tofu
Lime pickle and other Indian sauces!
Only 3?!! :( tomatoes, mangoes and pineapple
I guess I'm a pragmatist. I'd want brown rice, whole soybeans and my spice rack (couldn't that count as a food?) I would hope that the island would have coconuts and the surrounding sea would have edible sea weeds. I think I'd survive pretty well.
butternut squash, my hubbies homemade pretzles and good red wine
any random granola cereal, plain soy milk and ....brownies ;)
1) An unlimited supply of the soup that I tend to make and eat within 3 or 4 days
2) Apples!!!! (preferably gala's or fuji's)
3) White rice. (I just can't make the switch to brown.)
I'd also assume that there would be edible seaweed, so I think I'd be okay. Like duckalucky though, I'd be tempted to visit for pinapples and avocados. Mmmm.
young coconuts, mangos, and nori...all organic of course, for both health and taste...bet it's doable
Hmmm, that's tough. Brown rice definitely. Probably tomatoes. But that third one... assuming there are fruit available on the island (pineapple, coconut, berries, etc) I'd say dahl maharani, my favorite Indian dish.
kale
avocado
squash
1. vegetable potatoe crisps (this takes care of my need for crunchy and salty for those days during the month- might as well be happy since i am on a deserted isle.)
2. instant brown rice
3. an assortment of mixed beans thats already (and miraculously seasoned)
lol it appears that avacados are a big big winner in the vegweb top three!! ;) i love avacados and i'm always sad to see eating advice say "dont eat too many -- too much fat!" BLAH!! soo tastey AND good fat!
i eat whole avocados for breakfast almost every day! sometimes i sprinkle nutritional yeast on it, sometimes flaxseeds. tasty, filling breakfast!
lol, Second base your post made me want to barf! I hate avacodas more than anything in the word!
;)
you poor, lost soul!
that's okay. i think the same of ketchup (AKA TOMATO SLIME, A DISGRACE TO THE WONDERS OF THE TOMATO)... though ketchup has ZERO nutritional value... so it's not really the same
I like ketchup just fine. If a crate of it washed ashore on my desert island I would be sure to slather something in it. And I adore avocados!
BAD ketchup... now there's another matter. <shudder>
