So I think this will be a good idea for a thread. Hopefully it will encourage people to try stuff. So I'll start it off...
Today was my first time making homemade bread and it came out pretty good ;)b
I've pretty much never lived in a house that didn't have a garage. But we've only got a single at our house and seeing my husband is a builder and has lots of tools and stuff in his car, he gets the inside park and I park beside the house.
buuuuut
today* was the first time I saw my mum cook a meal with chickpeas. I think my year of living with my parents and feeding them vegan food might have had some effect after all....eeeee : )
Algae, where did you live in Indiana?
Richmond! I went to Earlham for a year. Where in Indiana are you?
Today was the first time I went to school before I had to be there... to study : (
today was the first time I tried to make vegan Girl Scout "samoas."
and I just typed up a review for it and realized I should just put that IN the recipe review. d'uhh.
*goes to put up review*
Today is the first time I've made lasagna with the type of pasta you don't have to precook. Don't get me wrong, I love that it's less work and mess (and no danger of boiling water/colander/spill), but I have to say I am apprehensive as to how it will turn out. This is all new to me. I also didn't mince the onion enough and I hope it cooks down and DH doesn't fuss about it.
Anybody wanna reassure me, pasta-wise? :-\
yabbit - I've never made lasagna with pasta that you DO have to precook. The non-precook stuff is pretty much the only type I have ever seen. You lasagna will come out amazing!!
Today is the first time that I have posted on vegweb from my dad's computer and his keyboard is well weird - keys are not in a straight row but kind of curved and it means I have to look at my hands to type and not the screen. I dont like it it makes me dizzy.
Thank you, pretty. It has 45 min left to cook. I will leave you know.
ETA: You were right. It was gorgeous. I used gram flour (chickpea) to make the bechamel sauce and added a good hefty couple of tablespoons of pesto to the sauce. I was delighted to watch DH scrape the "bits" out of the pan! That's usuallly my schtick. He couldn't leave it alone! He kept picking on the leftovers to the place I'm not sure there'll be enough for tomorrow!

Right now I live in Terre Haute, work in Greencastle (about an hour or so west of Indy on 70). I've been to Richmond. I looked at Earlham for college, but I went to DePauw. Hopefully I'm leaving soooon. I'm waiting for the bf to get done with undergrad, and then we're out of here!

I have been making my lasagna with regular cook before noodles but not cooking them first...as long as you use plenty of sauce and cook covered for at least 45 minutes then remove the cover to brown up the top. It works great and I get to use whatever lasagna noodles that I want...which is usually brown rice.
Today was my first time posting on VegWeb (and, time permitting, will be my first time trying out one of the mouth-watering apple crisp recipes I found earlier)...
today is the first time since me and N got together that we haven't spoken to each other for a whole day :(
He has gone climbing in Scotland and I expect he has no mobile phone reception, but I'm scared because there's been lots of avalanches in Scotland and a few people killed recently. But he said he wasn't going to go high up, so he really should be ok.
Even when I went to Rome for a week without him, I phoned him or he phoned me every day.
Shelloid~
Awww. :-\ I'm sure he's ok. I hope you hear from him soon! :)

Welcome! ;)b
yabbit, how was you lasagna?
to follow on from my prev post - N is still alive - as I thought no reception for his phone.

We finished the leftovers today and I submitted the recipe to VW. A lot goes to the seasonings in the tomato sauce you use (I used passata, which comes seasoned here and goes by the name of "tomate frito") and the quality of your pesto.
Crap, I didn't see the eta!!
I shall have to look at said recipe!

I am very happy to hear this. :)
today is the first time I have ever had minty hot chocolate. I have been reaaaaaaalllllllly wanting it since a few peeps on vw mentioned mint chocolate soymilk in some thread or other (can't remember which).
I have been on the lookout for peppermint extract ever since and today I finally found some.
Then I had a panic when I went to make my hot chocolate that I didn't have enough cocoa....but I did - just the perfect amount. Someone, somewhere really wanted me to have minty hot chocolate today ::)

You could also add peppermint schnapps to hot cocoa. Yummmmms.
Today was the first time I've had coffee in about 4 months. It's tasty.
