true story

OK, so today I went to the dentist. I will admit I have put it off for, oh, 5 years or so. Shame on me.

There are exactly 2 dentists in town who accept our insurance. I asked around for recommendations, and called the first one on the list.

I go in, I tell the guy that yes, I have procrastinated this for 5 years. He says, well, you're young, you should probably not have too many problems. Then I open my mouth and he proceeds to start talking about how most people don't know that their diets can affect their teeth. Most of the stuff he says is like, don't drink soda, coffee can stain your teeth, etc. But then he starts talking about dairy and how people who don't eat dairy have really bad teeth, b/c they don't get their calcium, etc. Of course he says this while I have my mouth open so I cannot refute him.

Would you believe after 5 years I have no cavities. Hmmm. Exactly how long I've been vegan.

Needless to say I will be checking out the other dentist.

i can only hope the same is true for me!  i have been thinking lately that its time to go to the dentist.

i never had a cavity until i dated a boy who lived across the street from a turkey hill.  i drank a half gallon of iced tea EVERY DAY for a whole summer, at the end i had 6 cavities... horrible.  ever since then, whenever i go in i have at least one little small one.  RUINED!!  ohwell.

rather than checking out the other dentist you should use yourself as a good dairy-free reference for him.
but yeah, i hate how sooo many people (health "professionals") promote dairy SO HARD. it is very unnatural and not good for you, so i really hate that.

people often find me scoffing in classes. ha.

Wow, I would have been like "Wow, thanks for your insights on calcium.  Thats weird though, Im vegan and not one cavity".  Thanks Doc!  :o

What I find funny about this is that I recently went to the Dentist after my own 2.5 year span.  Genetically I do not have the strongest teeth, enamel or gums.  The later could get really bad as I age too.  Yay.  But this time I went and I only have two tiny cavities.  Yay!  Last time I went without a dentist for any length of time I had over 10 of them.  I think a vegan diet does improve or at least slow down my own tooth decay.  I will grasp at any straw when it comes to my teeth!

When I mentioned to my dentist that I was vegan she said "Well you must be doing something right, everything looks good!"  ;)b
