URGENT!

Sort of, for me at least. So, I'm in the kitchen letting my oven heat up so I can make cookies, then right as I'm about to drop the cookies on the sheet - BOOM! A flash of fire came out from under the oven and now there's a burning smell in the kitchen. I turned off the heat for a few minutes and tried again. That time it just boomed but no flash of fire. I'm more afraid of fumes than anything else. Should I call the fire dept?

It's a gas stove I assume?  Sounds like you might have a gas leak...call the gas company.

Do you have an electric or gas oven?  If it's electric, my parents had a similar thing happen and the bottom coil just sort of exploded.  If your oven is fairly new, call the manufacturer because that shouldn't happen.  If it's a little older, you'll just have to replace it.  They can run a couple hundred bucks depending on the model.

Its a gas stove. I called the electric company and they're sending someone to look at it.

I guess it really isn't that urgent. I was just freaked out.

If it's a gas stove, you need to call the gas company, not the electric company. And do NOT TURN IT BACK ON. Open up the windows, get out of the house. I've had a gas leak before, it's not something you want to mess with, especially if you already saw fire.

Sounds like dirt in the thermocouple--was I right? Because a major leak would have given you a new back door, not just an explosion!!
