does anyone use this?
i bought some at a little russian grocery last year and the can says it's about to expire next month, so i want to try to use it up. the only thing i've really used it for is a few sprinkles here and there for cabbage or soups. i've never used it as a stock base or anything, it's really salty. like, REALLY salty.
anyway, just thought i'd see if anyone uses it.
Sorry Tiff...never used the stuff...I just wanted to say that I love going to ethnic markets...you certainly find some unusual stuff in them. I went to a Russian grocery when I was in Ireland (go figure) and the little russian I know was no help at all reading the labels. lol But it was sure fun opening what I'd bought just for the discovery factor alone.
I have this same problem in the Asian market. Sometimes the "English" instructions are no help at all, since this is a form of English I have no previous experience with... ;D I suppose if I were thinking in Chinese it would help--but then I could read the label in the first place.
I find most stock base type things to be heavy, heavy on the salt. Toss a little in to season whatever you're making (rice dishes etc) and remember--no salt.
I've used Vegeta for years, but always in soups and casseroles and stuff. It's fantastic.
