Welbilt Bread Maker - for $5!!

I am super excited - I bought a Welbilt Bread Maker yesterday at a garage sale for $5!!!

Unfortunately it doesn't have the manual and I googled the model (ABM3600) and I can't find one online since the company is no longer in business :-\

Any suggestions?  I'd love to use it but I'm clueless . . . could I buy a book that would tell me what to do??

This might help you get started.

Thanks HH!  That was so helpful - I just figured out that mine is a 1 lb machine  ;)b

No prob!  It's self serving on my part.  Once we get our commune community going we might want fresh bread.

Yet another reason for you to get your booty back up here!! Guess what I'm doing right now...baking fresh bread. Two whole loaves... Gosh, I wish I had a kickass vegan roommate to appreciate my vegan baking...

If I get to move, I thought it'd be cool to look for a vegan roommate so we could have good times.  My luck is somewhat questionable, so I'd probably end up with an angry vegan.

I'll start practicing making bread now and that way when our community gets together we'll have lots of yummy bread!

BP - it never occurred to me how hard it would be to get a manual, I just assummed I could find online, how wrong I was.

Most breadmakers work basically the same way. Put into bread pan the wet ingredients, then dry ingredients, then the yeast. Stick it into the machine, close the lid, program the baking time/setting and crust colour. Press start, and let it rip!

I just picked up a $5 bread machine too! It makes the house smell wonderful as the bread bakes. Yummy stuff.

So it's not too hard then?  Cool - that makes me feel so much better.

Move here. I'm looking for a roommate too, and I don't even think I could find an angry vegan in this town.

Not to hijack the thread, btw. Congrats on your bread machine purchase! That's cool. I love recycled cooking stuff. I've never made bread machine bread, but it sounds fun!

Thanks PP!  I've been reading some of my mom's old bread making books and I've found several recipes that I don't even have to veganize - woo hoo!

I'd love a vegan roommie too but I'm with you PP - I truly think I'm the only vegan in South Texas  :-\

Hey jewel, at least you know you are not the only vegan in Texas!  But if you are ever in Houston, stop on by, love to see ya.

But I am only going to be here another 3 months, then I am off to Syracuse, NY to be with my mom so that I can have my baby with her.

By the way, I bought my breadmaker for $5 too!  That is funny, except I got mine at Goodwill.  I love getting used stuff, and my maternity clothes I got from Goodwill too.  Saves a TON of money to shop there.

Yay for you!! That sounds like a great price for a bread machine. I just bought a $200 Zojirushi and I am already having problems with it. My daughter is a vegan so I only make vegan bread in my machine. My mom just brought me a $10 yard sale breadmaker by Breadman to store away for when my daughters move out. It works great! There are several sites that have vegan recipes for bread. You might try Allrecipes.com. I love that site! And as someone else instructed, you  add the ingredients into your pan in the order listed in the recipe. Usually liquids first, then the flour, salt, sugar and vital gluten if you use it and then the yeast. SAF is suppose to be the best yeast. You can substitute olive oil for butter or margarine. I prefer to use honey rather than sugar and mostly make whole wheat breads. You are going to have a blast with your machine. If you need any good, tested recipes let me know. I would be happy to share. I have some fabulous ones. Good luck!!
