cupcakes are in the oven, you're getting things ready to make frosting, and you realize you're out of powdered sugar? What do you top them with? If you answer ganache-- I'm also out of maple syrup, so keep that in mind, unless you have a way of making ganache without MS?
If you have chocolate bars, melt em down and top em with that.
Or eat em unfrosted. It won't kill you, it's basically cake.
Or put them in the freezer until you can get some sugar.
Depending on the type of cupcake, a sprinkle of cinnamon ;)
You can make a really simple ganache just melting choc. chips w/ a bit of soymilk. Cinnamon sugar is a good idea, too.
I'd gladly eat your cupcakes without frosting. jus sayin..
Make a fake frosting with granulated sugar. It won't be as good but its something.
Jam or fresh berries or nuts or make a nice cashew creme, sorbet, or vegan ice cream to serve alongside them. Drizzle a little agave over the top..
put regular sugar in a food processor with some cornstarch --> powdered sugar
or put a light dusting of cocoa and cinnamon
or you can make ganache w/ corn syrup (if you use it) instead of maple
or jam
or a mixture of peanut butter, sugar, and cinnamon
I'd gladly eat your cupcakes without frosting. jus sayin..
Iz vat I say!
:)>>> these are all great suggestions. I normally wouldn't have minded leaving them un-frosted, but they had cookies in them (Cookies & Cream from VCTOTW), and I was bringing them to my sister's for brunch today. I ended up doing the ganache with a bit of soymilk.
