What an odd place to find a vegan...

Sup y'all!  I was just wondering, where is the weirdest place you've met a vegan before?

I was thinking about that because I would always see this older gentleman (he owns it) at my rock climbing gym, and he was always bringing in yummy food that seemed veggy based except when he brought in pizza.  One day I commented, "mmm that pizza smells so good with all those onions" and he replied, "yes, all vegan pizza smells good really."  I was shocked, because for one, I didn't know of a place that made vegan pizza at the time, and two because... well, there aren't many of us types around, especially in Albany, New York.
He told me that he had been vegan since '85... 23 years!!  I must also mention that he climbs like a champ and has way more stamina than I have.  I should probably ask his age though, so I can brag to my parents about what they are missing out on... Eternal Life!!!! Mwahahahahah!  >:D

Have any cool stories to tell?

No big story.  There's a restaurant tucked in the far back corner of the basement of a consessions store by where I live.  I once met a vegan woman there in line behind me.  She asked me if I was vegan after she heard me try to order.

Really, I just want to confess my envy to you Cams that you have a rock climbing gym AND vegan pizza.

I know a vegan who works in a deli.  He spends a good part of his day slicing meat for deli sandwiches.  I don't know how he does it, having to handle it and smell it all day.  I think it would make me nauseous.  (He was working at the deli before he went vegetarian and then vegan.)

Storm: I bet working around cold cuts all day is what did it for your friend. Especially if he'd ever seen them made. Oscar Wilde was right: "Sausages and women: to enjoy the experience, it's best not to witness the preparation."  :-D

I've never actually met a vegan here in Spain, though I know a few ovolactos. They must have them, but probably not in the south.

I once met a vegan in on the bus...well, no I met him in a Subway restaurant. I went to a Subway near my house and saw they had these new veggie patties. I asked the guy behind the counter if they were any good and he said "no, they have egg whites in them." I was not vegan at the time but for some reason that still grossed me out and I ordered my typical veggie delight. Then, the next day, i saw him on a bus and he asked me if I was veggie and I said yes. He said he was vegan (and I made a mental note about the pronunciation because I'd only ever read it before and didn't know how to say it.) He was the first vegan I met. Wish he woulda told me to look more into veganism cause then I would have probally turned a good 6 months earlier than i did.

The next random vegan I met was also on a bus. He asked the driver where a grocery store was on the route and the bus driver didn't know so I piped up that there was a safeway way, way down the road and a discount grocery in two stops. I told him the discount grocery had amazing prices but "not much in the way of produce." and he said "well, I dunno about that, You see, I'm something called a 'vegan'- like a vegetarian..." I exclaimed I'm vegan too! and held up the vegan book I was reading. Recommended a few things at the discount grocery, and he stopped off....

yeah, not totally interesting. i have more stories about meeting ovo-lactos though....anyways
