what's your vice?

I'd imagine most of us are fairly healthy people when it comes to diet and lifestyle and usually searching for ways to be healthier....

That being said, what's your vice, food-related or not? What's the one thing you could quit eating/doing so much?

Mine's Tropical Source chocolate chips straight out of the bag. I just have to stop buying them because every time I do they never make it into a baked good, only into my mouth..

I like to think of them as "quality of life issues" rather than vices.  ;)  I think the sense of the former is more that, you  know, in the face of the sh*t storm that can be daily existence, you need a bit of something that makes everything a smidge nicer, even if completely gratuitous. At least some of mine are peanut butter (yes, I join many others on that one), salty condiments (course Celtic sea salt I can't live without, ketchup, soy sauce, umeboshi plum vinegar), and whiskey. My non-food vices are pretty much the internet, television, and running. That last one might seem counter-intuitive, but--as the other runners on this site will verify, I'm sure--I get completely crazy when I can't run for whatever reason.

I love potatoes too, french fries, baked potato, potato casserole...yum.  I also eat peanut butter right out of the jar by the spoonful when no one is looking...    :P  I love cookies, I have zero will-power when it comes to cookies.  Especially cookie dough!

I like to take lays potato chips and "dunk" them in pickle juice.  Yeah, I'm a weird one!

OMG!!! Don't tell me that LOL. I'm going to go out an get them now LOL.  :o

I guess that's the one good thing about living in middledenowhere.  I'd have to drive an hour and a half to get to some toffutti.  But next time, I'm in San Antonio, I'm going to get me some.  I love green onion dip so much.

I have a thousand foody vices, because I love everything. I love dried fruit, chocolate, wine, rich Indian food, latkes, avocados with champagne vinegar, sorbet, my mom's Thanksgiving stuffing, etc. etc. etc. Also, if I could, I would eat pounds and pounds and pounds of hearts of palm and artichoke hearts and wild mushrooms. I also constantly crave Diet Coke, but I've been off for 15 days!

My non-food vices are knitting, shoes, and working out.

Thanks for reminding me, I forgot shoes.  Yeah, it's a problem.  a serious serious problem.

Bread, jalapeño-stuffed olives, coffee and red wine.....good red wine.  Life is too short to drink cheap wine! ;D

Carbs (in any form and to large excess give the opportunity), coffee ( I try to tell myself it's okay because it's organic, fair trade, and bird friendly...but I know better), and Bourbon (I live in KY--it's the law).

DH says as one of my non-food vices I have to add quoting movie scripts as part of regular conversation...whether it comes in or not, in the case of "Vanya on 42nd Street". We've decided my epitaph should be "you may quote me..." (since I've spent my life quoting others.)

I just had to comment on what you said about diet coke. I used to be addicted too, many years ago. I stopped drinking it for a few weeks, then had a large one at a movie. I would never have known what aspertame was doing to my system, or have believed it otherwise. I experienced dizzyness, inability to concentrate, headaches, nausea, etc....really extreme.
i am so down on aspertame at this point, i won't even eat it in gum. it is seriously poison. so, just thought i would give my two cents...if you get it out of your system for a few weeks, then drink a bunch, you will never go back!!!!!
p.s. i have changed my "addiction" to Blue Sky's lemon seltzer water...no calories or junk, just purified water, carbonation, and lemon. It really satisfies that craving for bubbles!!!! :)

Oh, upon further reflection, i thought i better give a proper reply to this original question, and not just post my purist answer!!
My vices are popcorn, chocolate (i am on the pro-tropical source side...yum!!), and Indian food. But i have come to the conclusion that, especially as a vegan, any foods are fine as long as they are eaten in moderation and in balance.
Sorry, i am a nutritionist and just can't help it!! ;)

oh yeah, I agree with Nutdragon and  Sharway, I have a serious shoe problem.  I just can't help myself.  I won't even need a pair of shoes and I'll cruise through the shoe dept. anyway....I also love jackets, the coat closet at my house is stuffed full.  :)

And wine....I really enjoy a glass (or 2 or 3!) of good wine.  And I could probably eat Thai or Indian food everyday if my DH enjoyed it as much as I did!

I'm not sure if I'm doing you a favor or not...  I've been enjoying onion dip made with this sour cream recipe: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=6985
I prefer my onion dip with hard pretzels, but the carrier is really secondary, isn't it?  ;)

I love it...quality of life issues. Way to put a positive spin on things.

And I hear you about running. I don't know that I'd consider it a vice, as I sure don't want to quit...but I do tend to go crazy when I can't. We're having a blizzard right now and my first thought was...how many days 'till I can run again? And would I kill myself if I tried right now? LOL  :)
