Who does that!!!???

I was at school today and a girl brought in a bunch of rice krispy treats... She then hands me a cookie from Whole Foods and says I brought you a vegan cookie b/c I didn't want you to be the only one w/o something. Knowing that Whole Foods makes vegan baked goods I ate it... I get home and try to find nutritional facts about the cookie only to realize that they don't make vegan sugar cookies (she gave me a sugar cookie)! So yeah I was basically tricked into eating a cookie w/animal products and am now pissed >:( :'(!!!! That doesn't make me unvegan does it? I didn't know and if I did I would never have ate it. I'm going to flip out on her!
Maybe she assumed that since the cookie came from whole foods, that it was vegan....you did.
1. maybe the online information is not up to date, and there is a vegan cookie offered
2. maybe she made an honest mistake, and somehow thought it was vegan
Calm down.
DON'T FREAK OUT ON HER.
she'll assume all vegans are jerks.
she did a nice thing.
I don't think she did it to screw with you..
I mean, who buys a cookie from a HFS for someone just to screw with them?
Lesson learned....don't eat anything that someone gives you unless it comes in a wrapper and you can see what's in it.
ya she probably didn't know... it's okay you didn't mean to eat a non vegan cookie... i think non vegans try to do the right thing but aren't as informed... they probably don't know the codewords for animal ingredients... i know my dad tries his hardest for me and my sis when we eat over but accidentally buys non vegan things because he doesn't understand the codewords for animal ingredients... ya i def wouldn't freak out on her it would make you look immature unfortunately
I agree with all the good responses so far - my first thought was that she was going out of her way to do something nice for you & made a mistake.

+1
Along with that, most people do not actually know what the definition of a vegan is. Many people assume that I still eat cheese and eggs. Beyond that, many do not know where stuff like gelatin or red dye 40 even come from.
Again, do not go postal on her and make her think the rest of us are nuts.
We're all human, WS. We all make mistakes. I'm sure her heart was in the right place. Maybe the person who sold her the cookie was misinformed, too. They may have assured her it was fine. Have you never had a salesperson lie to you to make a sale? Or simply not know what they were talking about? I have. I have even caught my HFS clerk in something I knew to be untrue. But he didn't.
Chalk it up to experience and go on with your life.
You guys are right... I won't blow up on her. She tried to do something nice. But she says that she used to be vegan which is what confuses me on how she could do that. Also as far as if maybe being vegan I called the store after I got home... It definetly wasn't. But yes I did learn a lesson, don't eat ANYTHING unless I'm 100% sure.
THANKS EVERYONE!
Learn from this! It was nice of her to try, but she failed!
We're not trying to be perfect, we're just trying to make as little impact as possible. This isn't your fault, and you'll be okay! Head up!
Trust me WayneShep, that won't be the worst thing a woman ever does to you! :o

Yup, that's pretty much the case. But on red dye 40, that's simply a myth. If it's using cochineal red dye, it will be clearly stated. Red dye is actually tar (eww, like jet fuel). Red dye number 4 is the non-vegan one. As for gelatin, all non-vegans seems to screw this up. Even a few vegetarians I know are oblivious to this, and just ignore me when I tell them. To each their own.
A girl in my Spanish class made brownies and she asked me if I wanted one. "Oh! You can't eat these. I feel so bad. I'm going to make you brownies. I'm going to."
To be honest, I really hope she doesn't because she may inadvertently feed me stuff I don't eat, or screw the brownies up so badly that she thinks vegan brownies are nasty.
But she was SO nice about it. Genuinely.
Non-vegans screw up vegan stuff. It's not usually on purpose... they just don't know any better.
I'm sure the majority of us would have made the same mistakes.

Maybe she thought she was vegan before? I remember the first time I went vegan I thought all you had to do was not eat meat or dairy... I didn't know anything about all the ingredient codewords to look out for.
I think calling her a fucking lying bitch may be a bit extreme

wow, lubes. how dare you infer that's what he meant! I'm pretty sure he was calling her a fleeing lying bunch.

Love this!!
I had a coworker that said she used to be vegan, but she clearly didn't know what a vegan is. After I finally got the story out, she had a boyfriend that was vegan in high school and ate vegan with him. I'm still not certain, but I think she just thought it meant eating mock meats and soymilk. She didn't get all the implications. She claimed she quit for health reasons after they broke up. She would drive me nuts talking about how I wouldn't be able to be vegan for long. She didn't want to be educated on veganism, so I just let her alone.

You're right. It was, but I wrote this right after I found out and I was pretty angry at the time... Also I should have figured she had no idea what vegan really was since she said that she was a vegan when she lived in Japan and said it wasn't hard. I then asked her if she avoided fish stock and similar stuff and she said no. I then proceeded to tell her that was not a vegan.
Once again thanks everyone.
