why do they say 'vegan' like it's a bad thing?

a lot of people i know will not eat anything i make in the fear that it's VEGAN!
or if someone sees some more accepting people trying it out,
they decide to try some of mine, with my eating utensil,
after inserting their nasty food into their flesh-eating mouths.
it pisses me off.

Don't feel bad if they say that. I think they might be conditioning themselves to say that.
Wow, I don't know why I said parenthesis when I clearly meant quotes. I claim...stupidity. I have no excuses!
It's probably due to a lack of protein. ;)
Most of my friends are happy to eat vegan with me, but I've had a few who cringe when they see me walking up to a party with a dish ::)
A lot of folks respond better when I let them taste before I mention that what they're eating does not, in fact, contain animals or their products..
(I passed out chocolate mint cupcakes at the playground tonight and didn't get one single puke look thrown my way :giddy clapping)
If anybody says that to me I say, "Good more for me." :>
i usually bring cookies for the last week of classes each quarter, and last time someone in my group asked about it before hand. one guy got excited about cookies, and then said
"oh wait, they're going to be vegan...?"
"Yeah. why would i go out of my way to make something i can't eat?"
"oh..." (with a look)
"FINE. then you don't get any cookies!"
"NO!! i'll still try them..."
vegan cookies >> no cookies
tomorrow is another such day. it shall be epic.

Doesn't matter if I make it right in front of them, and use their own recipe minus animal products - won't touch it. I think many of them have vegan equated with fanatic in their heads and are dead sure that those nice looking sugar cookies are made with freshly ground gravel and river water so that we can absorb the essence of mother earth right in our green hearts.

My, mother-in-law, as much as I like sometimes just doesn't get the vegan thing.
I know that she told my husband that eating margarine isn't as healthy as butter because butter has "vital nutrients" that we can't get in margarine. WHAT? Why must we butter to get these so called nutrients?! And recently she was describing to me some desert her mother used to make, and said " I just put a little tiny bit of butter on the bread...that would be ok right?" NO NO NO!
But she's Swiss and her family used to have a dairy farm back in the day and made Gruyére cheese, so I give her props for actually trying to understand me being vegan. And she does enjoy learning vegan recipes from me. It will just take time...
