This is why we can't have nice things.

Unbelievable. ::)
Corporations are on the way to littering everything the eye can behold with their logos.
Remember when ball parks & stadiums used to be named after people? Now we name them after artificial entities who have personhood rights without much of the responsibility.
Grrrrrrrrrr....... Don't get me started on personhood rights for corporations! >:( >:( >:(

MDVegan, I'm in Colorado, so pick me up on your way!
haha, awesome. :) Go get 'em! Er, if the airlines will let you take the paint with you, that is.
I was offended enough with KFC's presence in Peru-- where the indigenous form of fast food is truly delicious, corn-and-alfalfa-fed chicken (sorry, those who are grossed out by my description), lovingly marinated and rotisserie roasted before being served with pureed hot chilies (creamy and delicious-- sometimes mixed with mayo) and fries. What could the appeal possibly be? Anyway, this "KFC is visible from space" thing just annoys the pants off me.
I showed the hubs. His response was to pull up Google Earth and show me the political campaign graffiti on the mountains near where we lived in Peru-- people use white paint or stones to advertise their candidate on hillsides in very large letters. They are perfectly legible on Google Earth!
I also got to zoom in on the rooftop where I did laundry by hand in a bucket every day for 15 months. I got misty-- ridiculous how a daily rhythm can attach itself to your nostalgia, even when it's a pain in the keister.
(P.S. for those who are skeptical of my pimping of Peruvian meat production methods: yes, there ARE factory farms there, but they still feed the animals natural, vegetarian corn and alfalfa (and algorrobo pods). Most of the giant chicken farms that boomed a decade or so ago on the north coast were long sheds with center segments open to the air-- much nicer than even "free range" facilities in the U.S.--and most of them went under financially, anyway. There just wasn't demand. The small scale stuff IS awesome and probably the way it should be done, if it is to be done at all... But there was a scandal a few years ago whereby large-scale industrial pig farmers were grinding up prehistoric (human) sand mummies excavated from archaeological sites and feeding them to their swine... ugh! :o The issues surrounding agribusiness are so different in different places, but they're never gone.)
They're petitioning for the USPS to issue a Colonel Sanders stamp.

This is just ludacris and almost funny at the same time. I can't believe the moronic comment that the President of KFC made!
i think that eyesore is an absolutely disgusting attrocity. i don't even personally have a problem with the fact that it's KFC; i would be NEARLY as disappointed with an organic, family-owned vegetable farmer advertising their produce on that kind of scale. (i realize this is entirely improbable.) I just find our deserts quite gorgeous in their own right, and i don't like the idea of getting massive chunks of them paved over so they can become outer-planetary advertising agencies. it's repulsive.

I agree. I live in Las Vegas, about 1 hour away from this monstrosity. I'm sure that no one here is of this opinion, but I hate when I read about "desert wastelands." People feel they can dump whatever they want (including nuclear waste) and do what ever they want to the desert. Deserts are UNIQUE ecosystems with all kinds of endemic animals, plants, and fungi. The desert crust alone is facinating, living ecosystem, so central to the health of the desert and can take hundreds of years to recover from disturbance--to just callously put this kind of advertisment out there is outrageous.
More info on desert crusts for anyone who is interested, I find them facinating:

I hate KFC and all other fast food places. . .I can't believe this is happening.
