You are here

You know what really grinds my gears.......

Ok so maybe I'm just a weirdo, but there's silly little things that really bug me for no apparent reason - what about the rest of you?  Is there any little thing that really annoys you, but probably shouldn't that much?

Ok I'll start:

I hate it when peolpe jiggle their legs up and down when they're sitting down.  Some people will do this continually and I HATE IT.  There's no logic to my annoyance but it really bugs me.

It also bugs me when women put their make up on on public transport - just wake up earlier if you want to wear it - and don't give people dirty looks when they stare at you.

WGMG:

People of color / minority groups who bitch about being oppressed while being severe assholes to people of another minority group.

I am particularly sickened by certain folks I know of... they actually have a pretty damn good life (higher economic bracket their whole lives, a good supportive family, very popular, etc.), but act like they know what it's like to be oppressed and discriminated against and play the race card constantly... THEN, they go on making racist and/or homophobic statements every damn day.
I fucking can't stand seeing / hearing them say things like "Rise above" and "We shall be free" and "Beauty is more than skin deep".... only to later spout some of the same vile hatespeech that they so adamantly protest.
Agggh, way to perpetuate discrimination, asshole.

true words times infinity... and they never went through the actual oppression... it was generations before them... i think white people are the only "racists" LOL... doesn't apply towards anyone else

WRGMG are these new "improved" medications that take 2 or more weeks to be effective. Pain relievers, allergy meds, you name it. You have to shove it in your face for a fortnight before you get any relief. Excuse me? I have the problem NOW.

Heli, I'm not saying all supermarkets are like that, but the "upmarket" one in our area is horribly like that. If I go there I know I will be asked to move at least 6 times in 15 minutes. I began to feel that they were against foreigners or something, or at least against me. Do I smell, or something? No matter what aisle I'm in, I'll get that voice, "Ma'am, could you move aside?" After about the third incident in less than 10 minutes you just want to leave without buying anything. Solution: I send DH. Somehow he doesn't get bothered as much. As I say--maybe they just don't...like...me.

I'm truly sorry that your stupormarkets suck so much. I believe that anyone who knows you couldn't help but like you... but, as I know from personal experience, most sheeple shoppers (or staff!) don't give a toss about who you really are, and proceed to treat a person like crap. Thus shopping becomes a stressful weekly experience. :-\

Also, here in Spain they don't seem to understand paying their workers a decent wage. So they ain't gonna be paying for them to stock shelves or whatever before or after opening hours. Noooo, it all has to be done while they're open to the public, preferably at peak times.

Getting a decent wage from a grocer is like trying to get blood from a stone. ;D I work for minimum wage... mainly because I'm lucky enough to have a good team of coworkers - I enjoy their company... which means I'm not rearing to go find another job right now. And I guess a lot of people are in my situation, with or without nice coworkers, simply because it's best to keep any steady job while one can.

Mebbe it's just Noo Zeeland, but I don't know many examples of workers being rude to customers - generally they're not allowed to get away with it, here. Sometimes I'm tempted to give rude customers a piece of my mind, tho. ;)

well, sort of..... There's still all kinds of racial discrimination happening to this day. But when I see upper-middle-class yuppie kids with silver spoons still dangling from their privileged mouths (who also happen to have darker-than-white skin) act like racist and homophobic assholes, I just wonder what the fuck they're on about, man. It's like, don't claim to be a victim of discrimination if you're going to contribute to the problem...Y'know?

I think that's one thing that really bothers me about my best friend. She's a lesbian who has a problem with gay males.

A lot of lesbians and gay men don't like each other. Gay men and lesbian women are very different. About the only thing that they have in common is that they're both attracted to the same sex. Often people forget that there's a lot of sex and gender issues involved.

I guess I just fee like if she expects people to respect the fact she likes women, and she gets pissed when people look down on her for being gay, she should extend the same courtesy to gay males.

This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

The same thing goes for those misguided, radical feminists who perpetuate sexism by hating men--simply for having that particular set of genes/genitals.... What the hell happened to the idea of equality, hm?

Yes!! I've been getting into feminism lately, CW. There are extremists in every group that are trying to bring their thoughts/beliefs to the table. Some forget that life is all about balance and that feminism is meant to even the field and make opportunity and rights equal for everyone. Equal rights for all!

Fighting back is one thing. But when you go too far, too radical, you disrupt the balance and are no better than the things you were fighting in the first place. Balance and equality.

Yeah, I didn't mean that it was a good thing, I agree with you.

Yes. The uber-radical feminists I've met here in Europe don't want to be "equal" with men...they seem to want to eliminate them. Gender cleansing, if you will.
But if you eliminate the males, and then you take their place on the pyramid (as they see it)...doesn't that mean you're next?

Okay, here's my new rant: Fair Weather Warriors (What I've dubbed them).

I've been out running in the shitty winter weather: 15 degrees (F), snow, ice, wind, you name it. I'm so happy the spring thaw is here. All of a sudden, the trails are LOADED with people walking and running. I think that's awesome for people to get outside, but most of these people act like they personally own the trail. They don't understand trail etiquette, most of all is to stay on the right. People will walk all over the trail, anywhere they want, and when I give a trail call ("passing on your left") they scream and jump into me. DID THEY THINK THEY WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE ON THE TRAIL??!! "Oh my god! I'm not alone!" I've taken to not giving trail calls, because then they're jumping and gasping by the time I pass them. I can't get over how much this happens. Oh, and when parents won't tell their kids to quit swerving all over the trail. This kid almost crashed into me with a bicycle last weekend. Yes, when I go out for a run I want to have to think about someone else's progeny and how I'm going to avoid an injury. Nice.

Okay, it's fine. In a couple of weeks it will be too hot for the Fair Weather Warriors, and I will have my trail back. Also, yesterday it was pouring down rain and 46F, and I only saw one person in an 8 mile stretch. So, I still get it to myself sometimes!

Yes yes, I like this.

Exactly!! When can we outgrow arbitrary restrictions like colour, race, gender or whatever and simply see PEOPLE, and judge each on their own merits or lack thereof?

Or would that lead to a movement such as "Asswholism"--equality for asswholes? Jerkism--equal rights for jerks? Playaism...You get me.
