You know what really grinds my gears.......

Ok so maybe I'm just a weirdo, but there's silly little things that really bug me for no apparent reason - what about the rest of you? Is there any little thing that really annoys you, but probably shouldn't that much?
Ok I'll start:
I hate it when peolpe jiggle their legs up and down when they're sitting down. Some people will do this continually and I HATE IT. There's no logic to my annoyance but it really bugs me.
It also bugs me when women put their make up on on public transport - just wake up earlier if you want to wear it - and don't give people dirty looks when they stare at you.
The government. I'm not 100% against government. I am, however, 120% against stupid. Right now, it seems we have a government full of stupid.
@lauren. I'm sorry. That sucks
@krista & yabbit- me too. I'm Christian, but I still think we need to take care of the planet. Too many people I know just don't even care because they believe that Jesus is coming soon, and it doesn't matter. Makes me upset.
I wish more people cared about the planet too. A lot of them tell me they don't believe in global warming or they think that you can treat the planet however you want and it will just renew itself. We can only destroy it so much before it won't renew itself anymore. As Christians, we need to be good stewarts of the planet that God gave us. He didn't tell us the planet was ours to destroy. People just don't have any respect :(

:'(
*Except HH, of course.
:)
+ a couple of other people on the forum
Yes yes! I'm sorry. Not HH and government employees. I love you guys. I actually know what HH does and I wholly support her job. So, please allow me to rephrase. We have a congress full of stupid. I limit that to congresspersons.
It was the whole weekend. :(
Boo.
Not HH and government employees. I love you guys.
i can honestly say, whenever trying to call the government regarding anything for my job they are super rude and pissy for the most part... i don't understand why they are so angry when I just need a few simple questions answered and I always get different advice on the same subject which is frustrating... this mainly has to do with filing taxes and registering one of the companies in a particular state... not fun :(
When the 1st shift supervisors call me at 8am. YOU KNOW I JUST WENT TO BED AT 5 BEEEYATCH!!!
Is there really something so earth shattering it can't wait till Noon? Wait-you just wanted to know if I would give up my day off?
Um...let me think about it.
Not just no but HELL NAH.
Also fun: when the gal who occasionally does a silkscreen on 1st shift calls me because she can't find a screen. *facepalm* Apparently alphabetical order is too difficult to figure out. Also, the ink color is specified on the print. Half-asleep me is not Not NOT gonna remember what ink that job takes right off the top of my head.

I think people get this from more than gov't employees, but because bagging on us is so popular, it stands out more.
I think it has to do with office culture. In my office, all upper management tiers are filled with exceptionally awesome people, which trickles down. We'll stay on the phone for an hour with you if you need that long. In some of our other offices, the managers are micro-managers and the staff will whisper their conversations and get you off the phone as soon as possible so they don't get in trouble for talking (yes, even though it's for work).
Being that I call private sector people, I can say there's a similar mix there. I think it's more noticeable in public agencies because it's popular to stereotype us. If you mentioned good service, you'd get boo'd down for saying something positive.
^ yeah, much like if you look up a DMV or post office, there are nothing but negative reviews out there. But because it's the understood thing those places suck*, people don't really think to mention it or acknowledge it when they have a good experience there. In a similar vein, most reviews online for internet/phone providers and hospitals are largely negative, probably because you only think to review those things when they suck, versus a restaurant, which you might think to review no matter what the experience.
*I don't get this assertion with post offices. Yes, DMVs are often busy, the work doesn't seem fun, and a lot of people are there for negative reasons/paying money they owe, but with the post office... I don't know what's up with all the negative experiences. Maybe I've always been blessed with good ones, or I don't mind it as much when there's a big line.
working in customer service changes your perspective too. I'm a lot more understanding of things because I get how some of that stuff works (plus the other people they have to deal with!), and there are a couple of things I'm actually less understanding of.

I agree. I think everyone should have to work in a customer service job for at least 6 months, just to see what it's like. I think people would be a lot less inclined to complain (and possibly even *gasp* be nice to customer service people) once they've been on the other side of the counter.
yep. I hate some people's attitudes towards customer service (not directed at anyone on the forums, haven't really seen that), particularly when people assume that someone's incompetent/stupid right off the bat. It happened to me and my coworkers SO often, and honestly, that's how you get an intentionally rude customer service representative (though, like all walks of life, some people do just suck). Other times people will complain about some aspect of a business (why something isn't faster or tailored to them), when it's like, you CAN'T run a business that way, or it would totally violate a health code for a good reason, or it just reflects general self-absorbed-ness.
e.g.: my mocha got too cold. can't you just use that steamer wand to heat it up?
No, its bad for the machine and people have allergies. We can't prevent cross-contamination when the mocha goo is stuck in the machine, you know.
Why can't you just microwave it?
1. it's a milk product that has sat out too long. you prolly shouldn't drink it even if you get it hot again. 2. microwaves are not good at reaching even temps. 3. we do not have a microwave.
Why don't you have a microwave?
because microwaves are not used in cafes. you should be glad.
What's that, then?
That's an oven. I have never seen a microwave that large, for what it's worth.
Can't you use that?
If you want to wait 20 minutes for your latte to bake, then sure.
^ I had been asked all these questions (but not been so blunt about the answers), for that reason: my drink got too cold - heat it up. Mind you I offered to remake the drink for free first. Yes, people would rather try to figure out a way to get 2 oz of liquid hot again than to get a free, new drink. GO FIGURE
Other highlights:
Can you heat up this thing I got elsewhere? (No.)
Can you use the tea shaker for my hot tea? (No, I prefer to avoid burns)
Your lattes are not hot enough. I'd like mine at 220F (Impossible)
I ordered an extra-hot cappuccino. This is not hot enough. (Maybe that's because you're eating foam. Foam does not get hot.)
But I've gotten an iced cappuccino at other places! (they were humoring you. Be quiet while I make you an iced latte.)
The other Starbucks has non-fat soy! (They were humoring you, or mixing non-fat dairy with soy. Also, non-fat soy is disgusting.)
This cappuccino isn't sweet! (Cappuccinos are not sweet. You are used to getting fake foamed cinnamon-chocolate-sugar from a machine. Welcome to real drinks.)
I only want <employee's name> to make my drink. He's the only one who makes it right (funny you should say that, because <employee's name> is one of the people who can't make things to code. Not our code, health code. He also uses 2% milk on all drinks, despite what the label says. Good times)
Peppermint mochas are only available around Christmas (I am telling you, I just made one and it's July. Please let your friend order what they want.)
The <item> was better when it was <something different.> (That item has never changed)
Good times.
Haha, yeah, I could write a book about all the stupid things people have said to me over the years. A really, really looooong book. And ftr, whoever coined the phrase "the customer is always right" needs to die a slow, horrible death. I've had that one thrown in my face SO MANY TIMES when I've said I can't do something because of company policy, health code, etc. In my experience, customers who actually ARE right don't need to point it out to me.

COURIERS! And some of the people who deliver packages for the post office (not all of them though...there are at least 2 who are cool). I just went out to check the mail and there was a slip saying I'd missed a package at 11:50am. I found the note at 12:20. At 11:50 I was right there in the front room giving Vincent his lunch. So yeah, some dude drove here to deliver a package and didn't even knock or ring the doorbell. So THEN I had to call the courier service to arrange another delivery time. I was on hold for ages, the lady asked for a tracking number that should have been written on the slip but wasn't, and it turned out the package wasn't even in DH or my names because it's something that my BIL ordered and had sent here because he lives outside of their delivery area. So I had to go out of my way to call them, and the poor lady on the other end of the phone had to go out of her way to find the package in the system, and all of this could have been avoided if the delivery guy had f***ing KNOCKED when he brought it. If he's getting paid to deliver packages, perhaps he should actually DELIVER them.
Thanks, theo! I'd forgotten about that website. ;)b
What grinds my gears is shoplifters... all of them, but in particular the ones who eat things inside the shop and then leave the wrapper/bottle/etc. behind. Often in my department, for some reason. It's adding insult to injury by stealing AND making us clean up 'their' rubbish. Grrr.
You'll never guess what someone decided to steal-via-consumption today... a bottle of water! I found a quarter-full bottle lying around next to the potatoes. WTF? Does the person not have a tap in their house? Of all the drinks you could steal, I just don't understand this one.

dude i worked as a customer service for 10 years straight, 7 at a grocery store, so i get it BIG TIME... i am just saying when i call about taxes regardless of state those gov employees are MEAN, even when i am super nice... though i have to admit when i called last week, the guy was really rude, but still helpful so i made sure to tell him how awesome he was!
FB i can tell you that i am stoked i never worked at starbucks, vons was tough enough... i would have probably punched a starbucks cutomer first day on the job
