Leg strain...

I got tendonitis a couple of month ago to my quad or whatever tendon connects towards the knee.
Its healing nicely albeit slowly..
I can run again, just not as much...
I'm stretching it and all..
I was wondering if anyone knew of any other ways to speed the healing.. like foods to eat and other exercises to strengthen it, or if I'm doing fine...
I don't really limp anymore except if walk, sit, then stand, its just the beginning of the stand then it goes away.
I don't, but I'm happy to hear that you're (slowly) improving. I sprained my ankle in late May last year and it hurt until December. Sometimes it just takes time, I guess. Don't stress it would be my best advice, but I don't even know if that's correct.
I have heard the protein helps in the healing process & also repairing muscles so it may help in your case.
Take it slow with the work outs.
My husband would be able to give you more facts/personal experiences, but I highly recommend walking/jogging barefoot. It has completely corrected his tendinitis, and ankle troubles. There are many sites on barefoot walking and running. Here is one excerpt:
"A recent study demonstrates that the skin on the soles of your feet resists abrasions and blistering and that going barefoot is beneficial to the musculoskeletal structure of your feet and ankles. ... Kicking off your shoes can help prevent a host of foot injuries: bunions, heel spurs, and bone deformities, among others. "Shoes act like casts, holding the bones of the foot so rigid that they can't move fluidly," Robbins explains. "The foot becomes passive from wearing shoes and loses the ability to support itself." ... - Cheryl Sacra
This site has some scientific papers on the subject: http://www.barefooters.org/medicine/
and www.barefooters.org has lots of great info!
It might seem daunting at first..but it might also really help your joints and tendons.
Oh, he also used to have the pain when he stood and first started to walk...but no longer has that now. It goes away completely if he's been jogging barefoot.
I believe tendinitis is when your tendon is inflammed right? Some natural anti-inflamatories are ginger, and turmeric, and make sure to get plenty of omegas 3s from flax, hemp & walnuts and in general eat lots of fruits & veggies to help your body heal. If you are interested in reading about how a healthy vegan diet can help your body recover from exercise, I highly reccommend The Thrive Diet by Brendan Brazier.
Also, you can try taking warm baths with Epson Salt. And massage it, that helps recovery buy increasing the blood flow to the area. If you have a running store nearby ask for "the stick", it's great for sore muscles & tendons. I would do light exercise that doesn't seem to stress it too much, like maybe walking, biking, swimming (I'm not real sure because I've never had an injury in that particular spot, but they are all low impact) If something hurts it, doon't do it, obviously. I don't think I would stretch it alot either, that can cause more trama to a strained tendon.
Do you know how you injured it in the first place? was it a sudden pull or a gradual ache that got worse?
I don't know if glucosamine sulfate is vegan or not, but I do know it's good for things like that.
I pulled it during a run one day, towards the end. I'm almost positive it was from my lack of stretching...
I stretch alot more now.
The barefoot running is very interesting...of course I'll have to keep it either to indoors or nice parks, considering the city streets are a hazardous place for that (broken glass and such)
Thank you sooo much everyone.
