Running Addiction

Whenever I start running again, I get really addicted to it...like I'm constantly looking forward to it, even if my feet are all blistered up.... I think for me I just always feel so 'free' and nothing else gives that sort of high. Know what I mean? My favorite time to go is when it is cold and slightly dark, either early morning or early evening/late afternoon... :)>>>

Thank everyone! Great sugestions!

I probably should get a new pair of shoes--I definitely replace them often enough--and I also take GOOD care of my gym shoes, they have their own special bag and are ONLY worn inside!! I think I have over 300 miles on these ones though...I was jus thinking the other day that I had probably hit my limit with them...but I hate breaking in new running shoes! *sigh*

I was really hurting in the knees and didn't feel like my ankles were supported at all. Got new running shoes this weekend. Such a difference :)

I know this isn't the best recommendation, but I usually wait until I start feeling a tinge in my knees, then think, oh I need new shoes- duh.

But you don't necessarily need to get new shoes as soon as you hit the 300 mile mark. If you are a lighter person and/or have a neutral foostrike you can get away with replacing them less frequently. Just take a good look at them. Look at the bottom, are they visibly worn anywhere? feel the inside, is it still cushiony? put them flat on a table, do they lean to the side? Have you been getting any aches in any joints? If you said no to all those questions, they are probably still fine.

True, true. Mine generally last for more like 4-500 miles, but I tend to put more weight on the balls of my feet (I don't run too fast... breathing difficulties, heh), so it wears down there first and I know I'm in tendinitis territory. I like to get new shoes a before I totally give up on my current ones, though, so I can gradually break in the new shoes and still have the old ones for comfort.  ;)b

Does anyone know anything about "chi running" (i.e. running on the balls of your feet)?  A lady I pet-sit for trained herself to run like that and she said it helped her knees A TON.

Sorry- I heard of chi running, but never looking into it

I actually went beyond the comfortable 4 miles last night! I did a full 6! I set the treadmill to a slooow pace & just varied it a little around there. Watched two episodes of seinfeild. My legs feel heavy today & I'm really tired this afternoon.

I don't know anything about it, but I have heard of that. It kind of seems to me like that would put a lot more stress on your ankles, though?  :-\
