Daiya source in Sacramento

I just had to share. There is now a Daiya source in Sacramento.
Gluten Free Specialty Neighborhood Market at 2612 J street.
Those familiar know that it comes in 5 lb pre-shredded bags and has a short shelf life.
I just separated it out into 1 lb ziplock bags and stuck the unused ones in the freezer.
Those not familiar. . . THIS IS THE MOST AWESOME VEGAN CHEESE.
The Italian Blend is perfect for pizza. My kids, who are real cheese freaks, love it. We can have pizza again!

I successfully talked my way out of attending a three day meeting next month in downtown Sac. I must need a full-on karma kick in the pants or something. This is very sad.

Too bad. . . we could have had lunch or dinner. There are a few really good vegan eateries in town.
I spent the last week of January in Sac, but I'm usually more successful in avoiding meetings. I'll keep that in mind if I'm there again.
I am in Sac. area also and would love to know what your fav. local restaurants are....
Have you all been to Sugar Plum Vegan Bakery and Cafe? It just opened and it's apparently all vegan, with daiya nachos and vegan cupcakes! I cannot wait to go!!

Sugarplum Vegan 2315 K Street in midtown and is SO good. Everything we've had there we've loved. And we're there a lot. They had a brunch a couple weeks ago which was amazing as well.
I, too, would like to know everyone's favorite veg eateries. I'm new to the area (Gold Country!) and I think I've found them all, but you never know!
So far I've tried Andy Nguyen's (very impressed with everything I've tried- they have tempura fries that make me weak in the knees, plus a HUGE variety of teas AND vegan desserts), Noble Vegetarian (good stuff - they are Vietnamese supporters of the Supreme Master which I only mention because these places have similar Asian fare with a big selection of mock meats so if you've been to one you know what to expect. I'm partial to the bbq chicken), Au Lac (basically the same style of food as Noble, but Noble is closer to me), Sunflower Drive-In in Far Oaks (burgers and more! Including vegan shakes...swoon! Beware the chickens! They will try and steal your food!), and Sugar Plum (the most amazing baked goods! I went to their Sunday brunch and was impressed with how yummy everything was. I've only ordered one sandwich off the menu and it was only okay, but I'm not giving up. I got excited when they said they were going to carry Match Meats, but so far I've only seen Gardein on the menu. Sugar Plum will be a regular stop for us), Latitudes in Auburn (they have a pretty good vegan selection The menu changes month to month, but there is a static menu, too. I like the nutty tacos and the tempeh burger. Their fries are amazing. If you go there for dinner I recommend going downstairs to the bistro or asking if you can see the bistro menu, too. They're pretty pricey), Pacha Mama Cafe in Auburn (I've given them several chances now and they piss me off every time I'm there. I will never, ever go back). But my ultimate favorite spot in the area is Ike's Quarter Cafe in Nevada City. We're there at least twice a month. They have a regular menu, but MANY vegan options including french toast to die for and sooo many sandwiches, all with a Cajun flair. They even have vegan desserts. My favorite is a brown sugar coconut custard pie with chocolate chip cookie crust. Oh my gosh. The place is about as good as it gets. Everything's always fresh and tasty. And they're the nicest people to EVERYONE, not just the hippies (there are a LOT of hippies in Nevada City). There's a raw food place across the street, but the couple desserts I picked up there were not impressive to me.
I know there are a couple Indian and Ethiopian places in town, but I've been nervous about trying them. We're not that adventurous when it comes to exotic food and I've never been a big fan of Indian spices or soupy/stewy foods.I think I'm most intimidated by the menu and not sure which dishes would be the best to choose. One of these days I know I will get up my nerve. I'd gladly take recommendations on what dishes might be best to try first!
Oh yeah - I forgot the whole reason I popped in was to mention that I picked up a small tub of shredded Daiya the other day at the Whole Foods in Roseville!
I'm going to be in Sac on saturday, and I'm thinking about hitting up a restaurant while I'm there. I am really craving some pizza... do you know any places that have vegan cheese available? I'll probably just look it up and hope to find some decent results, but first-hand accounts are always good.
I like the made-to-order pizza with Daiya cheese from Whole Foods at 4315 Arden Way in Sac (not sure if you've ever been to a WF - they bake it right there - it's delicious). A bonus: they have cupcakes from Sugar Plum Vegan in the bakery, plus insanely good (I mean seriously) vegan German chocolate cookies and supposedly they have vegan donuts, too, but they were out when I was in last. Also, there's a Z Pizza at 3984 Douglas Boulevard in Roseville (next-door to Sac) and they've got pizza with Daiya cheese. They've got a truffle oil & mushroom pizza that's pretty tasty. Have a good trip!
