I just scored a....... (a thread about finding great deals!!!)

I  love to brag about how little I paid for something. Like my $2.00 boots, or $14 Tofurkey dinners. This thread is dedicated to all the good deals we find!  8-)

I just scored (2) three pound tubs of Earth Balance for $2.99!

At this gross discount grocery store which hardly has anything vegan, they had these HUGE ASS tubs of EB (commercial size?) for $2.99 each. I did not realize until I got home that she only charged me for one, and NO I did not go back to correct her error! It is sort of far away (now I'm sure karma will bite me in the ass at some point). But jeez.....6 pounds for 3 bucks! I need to take a picture so you can appreciate how large these are. They are bigger than my head.

Anyone else get any good deals lately?

We don't have any farmers' markets yet, but theo you're making me wish they'd get here sooner! Awesome!

I got one of the big, 44 ounce I think, agave syrups for $7! They're usually 10. I use it for my granola, so I go through it pretty quickly.

Rice is the only thing that hasn't gone up here. I got my 5 Kg bag (12 lbs?) of jasmine rice for the same 8 Euros I've been paying for years. Miso is 5 Euros for a little pot.

Today and tomorrow is the truckload sale at my co-op, and we're going tomorrow. I've been saving up! I'll report back later with all the fabulous stuff I purchased. Last year I got a liter of organic tamari for 3 or 4 dollars.

I don't get white asparagus. It's all the rage here... but I love the green kind! The tips are so much better on the green kind. And surely it has more nutrients, right? I had some white stuff in a restaurant but I just haven't brought myself to buy any at the store. Lidl can have such good deals though.

OK, totally jealous, they don't send fresh white asparagus to Spain, we only get the mushy stuff in jars!! I did pick up a bunch of the green which is lunch today.

I went to the local Indian store today where they have bulk bins (only bulk bin shop I've found s far).

They had whet gluten for $4.99 per kilo (so maybe if my calculations are correct US$1.60 per lb??), which is waaaayy cheaper than what I'd bought before (NZ$10.50 per kilo).

Then when I got to the checkout, she only charged me $3.99 per kilo!!!  Score!

shell, that is good, ours costs $7.99/kg from the bulk bin shop.  I'm still pretty happy with that though.
We shop at a couple of Indian shops that have lots of bulk bins as well, but I've never noticed gluten flour there, might have to look closer next time we go in, just in case we can get it cheaper tooo : )

It's not too crazy awesome or anything, but we bought our cheapest tofu yet yesterday, $2.69 for a re-usable container with two big blocks in it .  We used to pay $3.99, then found some for $3.10, $2.99, and now, $2.69.  Best part? It's the shop that's closest to home out of all of them : )

was that from an oriental supermarket?  I tried buying the huge blocks in the UK, but it always seemed a bit too much like silken for my liking so I've been scared of buying it since.  What brand is it.

haha, I'm gonna stock up on gluten flour next time we're in wellywood.
and yup, the tofu's from an asian supermarket.  It's not really any brand, just tofu in a box, but if I remember I'll take a photo for you.  To be fair, I've only bought silken tofu once and didn't really understand the difference... so I dunno.... but it works well enough for us for scramble/blending for noochy sauce/freezing+pressing and baking or frying/whatever we want tofu for...

the block stuff I bought that was too silken-y for me was very different to non-silken tofu.  It kind of splits if you try to pick it up.  Hmm not too sure how to describe it.  But you wouldn't have been able to press it as it would have just squished and split under any weight.
Maybe I'll be brave and get some from the Oriental supermarket.  I want to make a trip there to try their cheap soy milk anyways.
