That doesn't mean everyone who is in one ends up like that. Sometimes domestic violence happens a "normal" woman-man marriage, that doesn't mean there is something wrong with every relationship like that.
And are you talking about polygamy or bigamy?

It's legal in some places
Your kidding me. Where in the U.S. is it legal?
I guess I don't actually mean it's legal...more like they won't be arrested for practicing it. You'd probably have to talk to someone more knowledgable than me if you want facts. It's not like they'll give you a legal double marriage or anything, but no one is going to arrest you if you have "wives" that are recognized by a church. I still don't know why polygamy is illegal.

but they are being forced into it. But that's interesting your saying religion is behind it.I was thinking as a law matter. I admit religion does get into things but on this one I didn't think so.

Well that's not really the same thing...being forced into it isn't right, but some women don't mind these arrangements. It's a cultural thing

Some women even prefer these situations. I personally think the government needs to keep their noses out of marriage.
Of course for any woman to be forced into a marriage or who is being abused it is WRONG. But I don't think that polygamy it's self is to blame.

By the way bigamy is different than polygamy and I think is very wrong. In bigamy the wives don't know about each other. In polygamy all partners give concent.

It is against the law but only from a legal viewpoint. If they are going around acting like they are all together or whatever, then they arent going to get tried in court. It really only becomes an issue when someone tries to deceive the legal system and receive legal benefits from marriage with more than one person.
::) I think usually they have like their 'main spouse' anyways, so that could be the spouse who is legally married.
If you suspect the cult is seriously breaking the law, IMO, speak with whomever you know in the cult and try to convince them to turn them in, or if you are pretty sure they are doing something awful you could call the police yourself. Most groups that are considered 'cults' (its sorta gotten a negative connotation I think) are decent though. :)

I'd like to remind everyone that there are members of this board who belong to the particular group which has been deemed a "cult" in this thread, so please remember to be respectful.

Thank's JH, I was gonna mention something to that effect. Just because a religion is different than yours doesn't qualify it as a 'cult'

Or every religion can be deemed a cult.

Just to recap my fellow vegwebbers I'm sure some vegwebbers missed it for whatever reason but I did state it was about men having alot of wives in my first sentence though.
And just want to clarify something this post isn't about religion it's about those men forcing women into those cults like everybody calls them.
To me I think the police should arrest those men. I think it's wrong.
Hmmm.. I say it's a relgion, no one is being hurt, let them do as they please and please who they do...
But isn't it bigamy?
yeah... and?
