Divine Better Than Reeses Peanut Butter Squares
2 cups crispy brown rice cereal, crushed
2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 cups peanut butter (preferably unsweetened - this recipe doesn't need any more sugar)
1/2 cup vegan margarine, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips
2 tablespoon vegan margarine
Combine the first five ingredients well in a large mixing bowl; press mixture into a 9 X 13 pan.
In a saucepan or double boiler over low heat, melt the last two ingredients together, stirring often.
Spread chocolate mixture over peanut butter mixture and set aside for an hour or two to set (if you can resist for that long!)
These squares are very rich and _very_ addictive! They were a frequent treat at home when I was growing up, and are one of my only childhood favourites I've been able to carry with me into veganhood. Yum!
Nutritional information: Appallingly high in fat and calories. Sorry about that!
SO HOW'D IT GO?
Delicious! But my peanut butter didn't get hard. Did anyone else have that problem?
Great recipe I also had to double the chocolate chips. I forgot to add the vanilla so I added to the melted chocolate. Very Very Good! This recipe is a keeper. I love how quick they are to make. I used a potato masher to crush the rice crispies.
put these in the freezer! they r so good right out of the freezer i swear :)>>>
these r soooooooo good! i doubled the chocolate topping because i wasn't able to cover the top of mine with the amount i made.. i also had a hard time crushing up the rice cereal so i just left it for the most part... so yummy i couldn't wait to dig in :)>>>
Oh my GOD!!! :)>>> :)>>> :)>>> :)>>>
These were amazing, like little squares of chocolatey-peanut buttery heaven! I have so missed Resse's Peanut Butter Cups and these have completely filled that void in my life.
I melted extra chocolate for the top of the bars, but otherwise, I followed the recipe. Delish!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for such a wonderful recipe. I have a feeling I will be making these all the time!!
I was so excited to come across this recipe that I made them the day after I found it.
I thought they were good-- 4 out of 5 stars.
I made a few changes to the recipe:
1. 2.5 cups of crushed rice crispies (made the bottom denser)
2. double the amount of chocolate chips, and melt them with about 6 tablespoons of peanut butter and about 4 tablespoons of soy milk. (This made the frosting more spread-able.)
3. used a large rimmed cookie sheet (made the treats thin) and cut them into about 1/2" pieces
I was told they were a little bland compared to the actual Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, so more powdered sugar it probably necessary.
This recipe is so delicious and a huge hit with all of my friends and family (vegan and non-vegan alike). My (very) non-vega grandmother even got the recipe from me so she could serve it to her friends. My only suggestion is to use a smaller pan...I prefer an 8 by 8 or something similar. Otherwise, the bars are almost too thin. This might just be my preference because I like to seriously indulge, but I also think it helps make them easier to eat.
Thanks for this recipe! I've been looking for something to make for my husband and his work buddies. They're used to lots of cakes and donuts so I wanted to surprise them with something different! Awesome!
These were soooo good. I kept them refrigerated and found that they said together fine that way. Out of the fridge they get a little melty.
Great recipe - thanks for sharing that with those of us who must have something sweet in order to survive. No complaints about this recipe other than it makes a batch that is too small. Doubling it might help me share some!
