Southern-fried tofu
1 package of extra-firm tofu
1/2 cup corn flour
1/2 cup vegetarian chicken seasoning
1-2 cups of canola oil
This is a nice, quick easy meal that even meat eaters seem to like. Its great for those who were raised in the southern United States, like me, and wish for something southern fried. It tastes kind of like fried chicken.
Begin heating about a cup of oil in a non-stick skillet.
Mix the corn flour and vegetarian chicken seasoning together. Lay the cake of tofu down. If it was frozen and you thawed it out, make sure most of the extra water is pressed out. Slice the cake of tofu into 8 slices about 1/2 inch thick. Dredge liberally in the corn flour/veggie seasoning mixture.
Lay the coated slices in the heated oil and fly until golden brown. Turn over, and fly the other side until golden brown. Drain, and season. Enjoy.
SO HOW'D IT GO?
This sounds really good-
what is in chicken seasoning? I have rotisserie seasoning, is that the same thing?
You can make this with WAY less canola oil and seasoning than called for. I made 1/4 package tofu, and only used 1 tablespoon of canola oil for the frying. I used probably a tablespoon each for the corn flour and seasoning mix, but still had some leftover. Maybe it's less "southern" that way, but also much less fat, and very delicious!
Great recipe! We made this last night with some grits and corn on the cob and had a southern-style feast!
I used poultry seasoning but I don't think that was quite right.
