need a new face wash

i googled cetaphil to find out whether it's tested on animals. i found some forum thread somewhere that said it is. i was wondering if anyone had a reliable source to back this up (i.e., a well-researched article or something on a legit website, not someone saying it's so on an internet message board).

that said, i'm assuming it's true, and as such, i need a new face wash. anyone have any recommendations for a readily available, pretty inexpensive, gentle face wash, preferably non-scented? the only wash i recall trying before that fits this description is origins checks and balances, but it didn't agree with my skin (too drying). so if you have a suggestion that works like cetaphil does, that would be great. oh, and i need a new moisturizer too  :)

thanks!

I use jojoba oil to clean my face.  I get my hands wet, and put a little oil in my palm, and just rub it into my make up.  It breaks down all my makeup, and loosens up any dirt.  Then I get a wet wash cloth and wipe everything off.  It's cheep, and does a great job.  I started using this when I was in my mid 20's, and I'm 37 now.  I was still acne prone when I started using it.  But after about a week my skin has been clear and soft.  I don't use anything in the morning to clean.  If I ex-foliate I put some salt in the oil, scrub, wipe with a wet wash cloth, then rinse.  You can get jojoba oil at Trader Joe's, and I imagine at just about any heath food store.

i use Basis Cleaner Clean face wash, but if you have even more sensitive skin ...Basis has a bar cleanser that is even gentler: Comfortably Clean.
but  im not sure how vegan they are. they cost about 5 bucks around here.

Burts bees is really good , there is a Lettuce face wash bar that i used to like:

they have some other good face prods. too.
some of their products though contain honey or beeswax, if that bothers you.

Alba has really nice products. I would definitely recommend anything by that brand.

Aveda's All/Sensitve is what you need.  I tried about 5 different brands after switching from Cetaphil (which my dermatologist recommended) before I found this one.  I use the whole line.

I think I'm going to try this one! I love Aveda, but don't buy too much there anymore, as I'm trying to save money & it's a bit of a splurge. But I think great face products are worth investing in! :)

Also, I find this topic funny because I use Cetaphil now, have sensitive skin, & have been on the hunt for the perfect new facewash for awhile now! Thanks for asking this, vegetativestate! Perfect timing!

I don't know if you have Maja brand Castile soap there...it's made with an olive oil base and is good for skin. I have been known to use Sunlight which is sold as natural laundry soap. It is allso Marseilles/Castile type soap, olive oil base and very gentle. You can use it for anything, clothes, floors or your skin and hair. Very gentle, gets things very clean, smells good.

Avon has quite a few washes I really like..they have them for all stages of life, all problems. I know that their products are NOT tested on animals.

hey! thanks guys. i think i've tried an alba product before (said specifically "suitable for vegans" on the bottle). but i wasn't a fan of the texture of it. i would LOVE aveda stuff because i really like that brand, but it is pretty pricey. maybe i'll splurge once and decide if it's worth it. burt's bees sounds good too, so i might try that.

anyway, thanks again! i know everyone's different so who knows what will work for me, but this definitely gives me a place to start. i'll miss my beloved cetaphil but knowing that they do animal testing wrecks it for me.

I have dry skin and use Kiss My Face bar soap to wash twice a day.  One bar seems expensive at $4.00 ish, but it lasts me about six or more months, seriously.  www.kissmyface.com

true, i use to use kiss my face and it last FOREVER. now i use "miracle grains" which i got out of Rosemary Gladstar's "Family Herbal." It is made out of food you probably have in your house and some green or white clay. economical and all natural.

Great website.  I like their lip balm but just saw some seriously nice things to give as Christmas gifts.  For other people and myself!  ;D

I love LUSH. Their cosmetics are hand made, using natural ingredients, and not tested on animals. They have many vegan items as well. I have loved nearly every product I've ever gotten from them.
