Amazing Chocolate Avocado Pie

What you need:

Crust:
2 cups pecans, divided
4-6 soft dates, pitted
1 tablespoon maple syrup
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 tablespoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons ground fresh nutmeg
1 tablespoon vanilla extract, optional
pinch sun dried sea salt Filling:
2-3 ripe avocados
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
12 ounces semi sweet vegan chocolate chips

What you do:

1. For crust, soak 1 cup pecans in 2 cups fresh water for 2-4 hours. Drain and rinse. In a food processor, chop 1 cup dry pecans into a fine meal. Set aside. Chop soaked pecans into a fine meal.
2. Cut or break the dates into pieces. If the dates are very dry or firm, soak them in 1/2 cup fresh water for 5 minutes to soften. Add the date pieces, vegan maple syrup, cocoa, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and sea salt to the ground soaked pecans and chop until well mixed.
3. Add the ground dry pecans and chop until well mixed. The dough should be crumbly but sticky enough to hold shape when pressed. Press the dough evenly into a pie plate; it is easiest to press the dough first to the sides of the plate and then press into the bottom for an even depth.
4. For filling, in a blender, cream together avocados, lemon juice, and vanilla. In a double broiler, melt chocolate chips; let chocolate cool slightly.
5. Add melted chocolate to the avocado mixture and blend until smooth. Pour into prepared crust and chill overnight.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I know that all the reviews are wonderful but I found this to be too rich and too sweet.  One of the posts said you only need a small piece and that is certainly true...it sort of grossed me out. :-[  I'm sure it is just a preference thing...If you prefer your desserts less sweet and rich you may not care for this recipe.

This is simply a great fix if your addicted to chocolate, the avocado makes it creamy and delicious.
I only refrigerated it for a couple hours and it thickened up really well so don't worry too much about the overnight deal.

This came out so tasty.  I totally messed up and add way too much nutmeg but it still came out great.  My directions got smudged and I added 2 TABLESPOONS of nutmeg so I added more agave (I used raw agave instead of maple syrup) and it balanced it well.  I took it to a mommy and me play group and everyone really enjoyed it.  Thank you for sharing this recipe!!!!  ;D

Wow! This is really nice! It is rather rich, so it only takes a small piece to satisfy me. My kids have not tried it yet, but I'll let you know what they think this afternoon. I love avocados and they are so good for you. Thanks!

I made this last Christmas... A year later I still can't get over how rich it is! Absolutely decadent is an understatement, but boy did everyone enjoy it. Don't be put off by the unusual combination of avocado and chocolate - it truly works.

Oh. My. God. THIS IS SO GOOD. Divinely, daringly, decadently delicious.  :P

I made a puff pastry shell and poured the filling into that, plonked on the puff pastry stars, too... chilled for a couple of hours, and it was ready to go! The only problem is I can't get through it all! This is a recipe that MUST be shared. Don't make it if you're by yourself, or you might eat it all and make yourself sick.  :o ;D 8)

I made this for a meat eating lunch party and they all really liked it. I made it with three ripe avocados and put in in a graham cracker crust. I then boiled coconut flakes in water an sugar to get a coconut syrup. I topped the slices with that and then sprinkled chopped macadamia nuts over it. This combination is great and I will make it again when I go home to hawaii. five stars!!!!

Even though my avocados weren't quite ready to be eaten, the pie came out just woderful!  I mashed them with a potato masher before blending with the melted chocolate chips.  This pie was a BREEZE to make.  I decorated it with pecans and leftover chocolate chips and everyone thought that it was store bought.  Yummy and Pretty. Thanks for sharing!

i made a quarter of the recipe cus i only had a half cup of chocolate chips and i just put it in a bowl so i can't review the crust.  however, the filling made a delicious mousse, that like the others said - is quite rich.  i also added a splash of water to the avocado while it was in the blender to thin it a little bit and while it's super rich it was pretty light in texture.  it was melt-in-your-mouthy and reminds me of one of the layers in a non-veg chocolate caramel pecan tart i made last year.

I had to use a regular graham crust, but next time will be sure to make the proper crust... it sounds scrumptious! I thought the pie was fantastic, my non-veg husband... not so much, I think it was too natural for him. He likes snack cakes and the like.  :P Lucky for me, I have an entire pie to myself!! I served it with some sliced strawberries and pineapple. YUM!
