SO HOW'D IT GO?

Just let the batter sit for 30 mins and it will THICKEN...big time!  ;) I blended the batter using 1/2 the water, but while I was waiting for my kids to wake up it got so thick that I had to add the rest of the water. These were really good, much better then flour recipes!

Wonderful!!!!
Best waffles I have had in a long time.  Since finding this recipe yesterday I have made it twice.  Both times I made a single serving portion,  which was the perfect amount! My first waffle was a bit dry so the next time around I added in 1/4c Libby's canned pumpkin which made all the difference.  I am using a mixed oats medley from Trader Joe's so I think my waffles are turning out a bit denser than other peoples but I love their heartiness.
Thank you!

These were really good even though the took ages to cook! (5 minutes) I doubled the recipe. I also ground the oats finely in the food processor till the were almost like flour. The mixture was quite runny but I didn't add any more flour and they were fine.

ive never made waffles before but i have been looking for a very basic waffle recipe and this looks perfect. im curious though, is there much of a difference with subbing applesauce for the banana? (or pumpkin puree for pumpkin waffles) will the flavors of banana/apple/pumpkin really "make" all of the difference in the taste of the waffles? thanks!

I tried applesauce once and it did not turn out.  However, pumpkin is great.  I don't even use banana anymore.  When using pumpkin, I add some cinnamon and maple syrup.  I also started adding some milled flax seed and a little baking powder to lighten them up a bit.  I always add oil because they stick if I don't.

These have become a staple at our house.  My children love them, and they are very simple and easy to make.  Not much to clean up either, since it is mixed in the blender - that makes the resident dishwasher (my husband) very happy too!  I do add flour to it, sometimes agave nectar instead of sugar.  It seems very adaptable.  Thanks for this recipe! :)>>>

thanks allychristine  :)

i tried this recipe  last night on my new beligum waffle maker last night. i followed the recipe exactly, with the addition of 1/2 tsp baking powder and soda and cinnamon (used banana which made the waffles smell and taste great!) but unfortuantely i ended up throwing the wafflle away. the flavor was lovely but it didnt crisp up and the texture was soft, yet gummy. i left it in for about 7 minutes but i was too hungry to wait. so i ended up eating a couple van's frozen blueberry waffles instead! bummer. but i am not going to give up on this reicpe! i love how quick and simple it is, plus i always have the ingrediants on hand!

does anyone else have trouble with belgian waffle irons? does it require a special batter or baking powder, etc?  ???

Hm..I don't think mine is a belgian waffle maker...but I tried this recipe the first time I used my waffle maker. It took a few tries to get it right..I still have to throw away my first waffle b/c it's all gooey. But, after that..they come out perfectly. Mine has a heat setting of 1-5, and I always use 5. Did you just try making one waffle? I would try again and make another after the first one (even if it's weird again). Mine does that too..I don't use any baking powder..so I don't know if that affects it.  :)

Hm...I would think it would just make a difference in the consistency of the batter (and a little in the taste). The banana taste does come through, in a great way..but I'm sure any other flavor would also be good (just different). You might just have to adjust the thick/thinness by adding some flour, more soy milk, etc. Go for it!

This really should have 5 stars..it comes out great every time. Try it! (just add a little bit of flour and lots of cinnamon)  ;)b

I made these for breakfast this morning and I *pretty much* followed the original recipe.  I added a little extra vanilla extract, a drop of almond extract, and 1/2 tsp baking powder.  I made them the night before and put the batter in the fridge overnight.  The batter was definitely thick enough (I did use quick oats so maybe that makes a difference??)  The waffles didn't come out as crisp as I usually like, even after cooking 4-5 minutes...however, they were very tasty and my husband raved about them!  I like how they remained soft inside, but I think I'll add a little more baking powder next time, maybe 1 tsp.  I definitely recommend trying these!!
