Chocolate Frosting

What you need:

1 cup sugar
6 tablespoons corn starch
4 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
2 tablespoons oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

What you do:

1. Mix sugar, cornstarch, salt, and cocoa in a medium sauce pan. Whisk in the water.
2. Heat over medium until it gets thick and starts to boil. Boil for 1-2 minutes. (Make sure you don't boil too long, or it will set like taffy.)
3. Remove from heat and stir in oil and vanilla. Cool and spread on cooled cake. Enjoy!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

This icing is unbelievably delicious! I'll never buy storebought again- big hit with my non-vegan family members as well! Great job.

Love it!  I use this recipe for chocolate frosting on my favorite chocolate cake.  My hubby loves it so much that he requests it be on hand at all times  :D

This icing tastes amazing. I didn't have trouble with it getting too thick or anything, I just had to make sure that I was constantly whisking.
I only had to have it over heat for 1 minute, after that it was thick enough. I only used half the amount of oil and it was perfect!
Licked the whole bowl after! :)>>>

This is a such a great recipe but i found it idem here: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=26565.0;prev_next=next#new why would someone post the same recipe?
Anyhow thanks a lot! I toped 12 cupcakes and then made some "bombons" filling a minimuffin pan with  the frosting and a dollop of peanut butter hidding in the middle...

a little too pudding-y (like many others say), but still good. very rich and chocolatey. I think I added another tbsp of cocoa, halved the sugar, used 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup soy milk (instead of 1 cup water), and halved the cornstarch and it came out rich and delicious.
don't let it set or cool at all after you remove it from heat before spreading it though, or else it becomes unspreadable as it gets too thick too fast!

Easy to make and super yummy!  Perfect amount to frost (2) 9 inch rounds.

Oh, and half of this recipe was good for 12 cupcakes.

This tastes good, but it is very pudding-like (as others have said). Maybe if I cook it a bit less..it will have a better texture. I halved it, and I think too much cornstarch (arrowroot) is called for. I'll cut down on that. This is a good recipe to have for times when I don't have powdered sugar/soymilk powder, and such things.
