Curried Rice
What you need:
4 3/4 cups water
2 cups rice
2 cups soy curls (Butler foods)
2 teaspoons curry powder
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
3 whole cloves
1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
2 whole bay leaves
1 cup mixed vegetables
What you do:
1. Bring water to a boil. (Usually the ratio is 2 cups water to 1 cup rice, but you need a little extra because the soy curls soak up water) Put all ingredients except the vegetables in the water.
2. Lower heat and cook for 35 minutes. Add the vegetables near the end.
3. Remove bay leaves and cloves before consuming. Enjoy!

SO HOW'D IT GO?
I'm thinking of making this, minus the soy curls. Has anyone tried it that way? It sounds very similar to Indian Biryani, which is my favorite rice dish of all freakin' time :)
I feel silly asking, but what are soy curls??

"...there's a relatively new protein added to the mix with Soy Curls, a textured soy product that closely resembles the texture and mouth feel of meat, and is made exclusively by the Grand Ronde company Butler Foods. But Soy Curls aren't one of those faux meats made out of soy protein isolates, which can be loaded with chemicals, artificial ingredients and plenty of added fat.
So what exactly are Soy Curls?
They're dehydrated strips of soy protein made out of whole, non-GMO soybeans that are slowly cooked until they're soft, then processed by a machine that breaks them into strands. Then they're slowly dried at a low temperature and packaged. That's it. No added fat or flour -- just soybeans that have been transformed, leaving them high in fiber and omega-3 fatty acids, with 10 grams of protein in every serving...."
(Note: this article does give tribute to the myth that you need to seek out extra protein when you go veg-- you don't, of course! Protein's all over the d*** place in a varied vegan diet... with or without 'meat substitutes'. Just had to say that, for the record! But... the product does sound interesting. Haven't tried these yet... but WILL!!)

Don't feel silly asking... it's a great question and it seems like not very many people know about them! I like Soy Curls because they are made from the whole soybean, unlike tofu. They are really easy to use and have an amazing texture like chicken. YUMMMMM
I feel silly asking, but what are soy curls??
I googled soy curls and learned that they are another kind of soy-based meat substitute. They look like tofu to me, but sound faster/easier to work with because you just rehydrate them:
