Dang Good Leftover Stuff in the Fridge Bean Burgers
3/4 cup beans (black are really yummy)
1/2 cup cooked brown or white rice (I prefer brown)
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/4 cup bean juice or broth
1/2 tablespoon onion powder
1 clove fresh garlic, minced
basil, to taste
sage, to taste
parsley, to taste
red pepper flakes, to taste
salt, to taste
1/4 cup oil
1. Add beans to food processor, and until they resemble refried bean consistency. Add cooked rice, bread crumbs, juice or broth, garlic, and herbs and spices. Pulse until these are all very well mixed but still have texture. Or, mash by hand.
2. Heat oil in a pan on medium high heat. Make sure your pan is nice and hot or they may stick. Wet your hands a little with water and form mixture into patties.
3. Fry patties for about 6 minutes on each side. Do not turn until you are certain they are nicely browned. These can only really handle about 1 flip before they start falling apart. You may have to press down a little with you spatula to keep it together. If you break one, no big deal it usually goes back together nicely.
4. Get your buns ready with condiments and such as your burgers are getting nice and browned in the skillet.
Source of recipe: I was so tired of spending $4 a box for a burger substitute so I wrote this recipe upon having leftover rice and beans in the fridge. It turned out so delicious that I make beans and rice just so I can make these burgers later. Also, it's another way to use up bread that is just a little to dry to eat.
SO HOW'D IT GO?
ANOTHER WIN!
Yummy and easy. And I'm sure healthier that the stuff in a box! I took someone elses idea to add some liquid smoke. I think it was a good idea, but maybe I'm burnt out on liquid smoke because the smell turned me off a bit. Overall, great recipe. THanks!
I ALSO LOVE WHEN THE HUSBANDS ARE HAPPY!
First time making veggie burgers for my nonvegan husband. Turned out great and he loved them. Instead of oil I added barbecue sauce and didn't have any garlic so just used garlic powder. Also added a bit of oat flour. Leftovers kept good in the fridge.
I LOVE WHEN THE KIDS ARE HAPPY!
I'm interested in trying them with that blend of spices, Mehgan. Sounds deeeelish!
These were so good!! I don't want boxed veggie burgers anymore. I doubled the recipe and the only spices I used were onion powder, garlic powder, taco seasoning and some salt. Fabulous..just fabulous. Thank you so much! I'll be using this from now on when I want burgers.
this was amazing! i grilled these for a bunch of omnivores and everyone loved them.
i used basil, added some liquid smoke, and put in more bread crumbs to make the patties a bit more substantial. they held together well and tasted amazing! i'm using this recipe over frozen boca burgers from now on.
omg! These were sooo good! I added some meat alternative granules to the mix. Yum!
YAY!
