Dutch Tempeh Bacon Dice
4 tablespoons ketjap manis (Indonesian sweet soy sauce)
2 tablespoons water
1 to 2 red chili pepper(s), minced, optional
1 to 2 tablespoon(s) soy sauce
1 (8 ounce) package tempeh, finely diced
1. Preheat oven to 340 degrees F. In a bowl, mix together ketjap, water, chili pepper, and soy sauce. Stir in tempeh and allow to marinate for about 10 minutes.
2. Place marinated tempeh on a cookie sheet and bake in oven. Check every 15 minutes for how soft or hard they are. When they are 'baconish' hard, they're done! Now all you have to do is mix them in your favorite dish.
Source of recipe: The dutch litchen use bacon dice in many sorts of mashes and stews dishes to add some 'tsjing' to the meal. As I was experimenting with vegan versions of those dice, I found this. It can be used in stew and mashes, but just as well in curries or rice dishes.
SO HOW'D IT GO?
Great recipe. My only suggestion is to steam the Tempe for 10 minutes before you marinate it.
