Grandma's Perfect and Easy Apple Crisp
4 cups apples, sliced or chopped
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
pinch salt
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
nonstick spray
3/4 cup flour (I use whole wheat pastry)
1/2 cup organic "white" sugar (not sucanat)
1/4 cup vegan margarine (I use regular Earth Balance), melted
pinch salt
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Toss apples with cinnamon, salt, water, and lemon juice.
2. Spray a pie pan or 10 X 6 pan with nonstick spray (or oil it). Place apple mixture in pan.
3. Mix together well the topping: flour, sugar, margarine, and salt. Crumble it over the apple mixture.
4. Bake until topping becomes a little browned, usually about 50-60 minutes or so.
I like to serve this with some nondairy milk poured on top. One of my favorite recipes of childhood. I omitted the dairy and cut the fat and sugar content way, way down. It still tastes decadent and wonderful to me!
SO HOW'D IT GO?
Great recipe! I have made it multiple times and you can sort of transpose these ideas to all kinds of other apple recipes where you want a crumbly top. Thanks!
yummmm
This was one of the tastiest things I've eaten like all month. For real. And it was my very first fruit crisp! I'm sold :)>>>

I just made this for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. We have been eating apples for days and she was tired of raw apples so I thought this would be a good change for her. I let her help me and she ate tons of the raw apples with just cinnamon on them so that may be a new treat! It was easy to prepare and she gets to help. She loved it! I used some maple syrup and molasses instead of the white sugar. I also put oatmeal on top along with the regular topping. When I served it, I sprinkled shelled hemp seeds on top for a little extra healthiness. GREAT RECIPE!
This was super easy!
loved this recipe! I had a whole bunch of apples that needed to be used up and this was perfect. I added raisins to the apple mixture and walnuts to the topping. I also subbed brown sugar for white out of personal preference and canola oil for the margarine out of convenience. the result was delicious! I poured almond milk over the top and it was perfect. I like that it could pass for a healthy dessert or a kind of sinfully delicious breakfast.
SO GOOD. I used two pears and a mango instead and added chopped walnuts & flaxseeds to the crisp. Yum.
wow! This is delish and easy! It was a hit!
Maybe i'll try it w/ pears too!
so good. so basic. so easy!
i used this recipe a couple times at home, looked at the recipe once and somehow pulled it all together. . . . it turned out soo good! the apples i used were really soft when baked, though, so i really shouldve put more in.
i also used this recipe when i went up to my school, cooking for some 100 students. the recipe popped into my head and i tried it, all from memory! it was a huge hit. thanks so much for the recipe! ;)b
Really, supremely delicious :)>>> I too added some oats and walnuts to the topping, personal preference.
