Mom's Special Hummus
What you need:
1 can (16 oz) garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoon tahini
2 to 4 tablespoon lemon juice
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1/2 teaspoon cumin (more to liking)
1 teaspoon tamari (strong soy sauce) or 1/4 teaspoon salt
What you do:
Drain garbanzo beans, saving liquid. Place beans and other ingredients in blender or food processor. Blend until smooth, adding 1-2 tablespoon of saved liquid if necessary.
Thin to desired consistency. Best if refrigerated several hours or overnight to allow flavors to blend.

SO HOW'D IT GO?
Question, I don't have tahini, is there something else I can use to substitute? Can't wait to try it!
maybe a bit of sesame oil to give you the sesame flavor..start small and taste..a little goes a long way.

It's basically a nut butter. You could add peanut butter, I guess, but I wouldn't add as much. Maybe sesame oil if you have some?

This is really good. I added slightly more lemon juice, no oil, a little water, and forgot all about the tamari and it was still really good. I wish I had some red peppers to roast and throw in.. :)>>>
Excellent! Quick and easy. I have been craving hummus and won't use another recipe.
Awesome! I used Ungreen's adaptation, the only problem for me was accidentally adding too much soymilk. Otherwise, this is very nice hummus! I was one of those people who always ended up with a bland yellow dip before, but this turns out great, just like store-bought. thankyou!
to me it came out a bit too dry, maybe you should try adding some water to it for a softer consistency :)
I made this yesterday, and also used Ungreen's recipe (sans flax oil/with soy yogurt). Very tasty. I added extra lemon juice and some heat. I usually eat hummus with sangak (stone bread) that I buy at the Persian store.
I made the changes that Ungreen recommended.... AMAZING hummus!!! I did omit the flax oil she used, and I used soy milk instead of rice milk. I actually used about 4-5 tablespoons to get it nice and fluffy... I think I could have eaten the whole batch in one sitting... I also think hummus pairs best with fresh organic carrots... Yum! :D
Yum! I love how the best hummus I've ever tasted is the one I've made myself ;) And I am a hummus FANATIC.
