Olive Oil Conditioner
What you need:
1 cup olive oil
10 drops of your favorite essential oil (try rose or lavender)
What you do:
Mix the 2 oils. Let sit for at least 24 hours.
Apply a tablespoon of warm oil to freshly shampooed hair. Leave for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse lightly.
(Also, I remember hearing once that mayonnaise was supposed to be a good conditioner, so if you're feeling adventurous you might take a cup of Nayonnaise or Veganaise (soy mayo) and apply as much as necessary to cover your hair, wrap your hair in plastic wrap for 30+ minutes, then wash. I have no idea how this would work out though!)

SO HOW'D IT GO?
I tried a similar recipe on my hair a few days ago and it was a nightmare. it took me 5 days and about 12 washes to get all the oil out, and I had to resort to baking soda, vinegar, dish soap, and store bought shampoo full of sulfates, which was terrible because it made my count of days on natural haircare go back to zero.
I have to know, has anyone had a similar experience? What is the difference with this recipe? (The other one told me to use 4 tablespoons of oil all over my hair and rinse it out)
I've used olive oil, avocados, coconut milk, you name it, on my hair, they all work great, but the key is to shampoo it out. Otherwise yes, your hair will be super greasy - or at least that's how my hair has always behaved (I have thick past-shoulder length hair).

Olive oil does that to my hair too and I had to use dishsoap and cheap shampoo to get it out and it took about a week. It was awful. It might be different with this recipe though because it calls for essential oils and different EO's have different properties so you can play around with different ones to help you figure out which works best with the olive oil for your hair.

This is awesome! I leave olive oil in my hair about once a month for a few hours and it repairs it and makes it so silky! :)
i really like this stuff, i've been using it for a while now and it makes my hair really shiny. i put it at first, wait for like half an hour or so, then i wash my hair like i would normaly. i didn't add any essential oil, but i put a few pieces of lemon peel and a rosemarysprig at the bottom of the jar and it gave it a nice clean smell.
I use one of those plastic claw-like hair clips to pile my greased-up hair on top of my head, instead of the usual plastic bag. The bag just sounds uncomfortable to me, and the oil stays put- it doesn't drip down my face or anything. Then I have no problem leaving it in for an hour- I can do dishes, or read, or whatever.
I don't have essential oils so I just used the olive oil. Also, I used a little less than 1/4 cup. I did what yabbitgirl suggested and waited to wash my hair until after I did the treatment.
First I rinsed my hair in warm water, then I rubbed some oil on my hands to warm it up and massaged it in starting at the scalp and working my way to the ends. Then I wrapped my hair in a plastic bag and let it sit for 30 mins. Afterwards, I washed my hair with my regular shampoo and conditioner. My hair feels really soft and it smells like olive oil, which is good because I like the smell of olive oil. Next time I think I'll just stick to treating just the ends of my hair because that's the only part of my hair that is really dry.
I usually apply the oil to hair before it is washed, let it sit and then wash as usual. It won't clog the drains but you might have oily hair if you just "rinse lightly". The time factor depends on the length of your hair, but 2-3 mins is NOT enough to do any good. The oil needs time to soak into your hair and nourish it. If you have very long thick hair you can let it go for up to 45 min.
I want to try, but doesn't this clog the drain and make your hair sticky with only rinsing it afterwards ???
Another use for Nayonaise etc...rub liberally on hair and wrap your hair in plastic wrap for 30-45 min if you have lice...it kills the little critters. Do use a nit comb afterwards to get rid of them. Not as agressive as the OTC stuff from the pharmacy.
