To Any Budding Writers out there in Veggie Land...

Hello!  Are any of your writers or aspiring writers?  I'd really love to be a writer, so I'm signing up for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month)

More info here:  www.nonowrimo.com

It means that you are signing up for a goal to write a 50,000 word novel in the month of November (1st through the 30th).

A Writing Marathon, if you will.  I work best with goals, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Anyone else doing this, or want to try?

Heya folks!

I am slowly getting the swing of this NaNoWriMo site and gearing up for a solid month of writing.

Anywho, if any of you want to be writing buddies, you can add me by searching for 'AmandaBrooke'.  I don't know exactly what Writing Buddies do, but perhaps we will find out in the course of the month.

Once again, good luck to all!

I am stoked! While not entirely sure of my plot-line (I'm debating between two...), I'm excited to get started tonight. I've not been on their boards much, but I'm going by and_it_spoke, so if you need to, check in!

Woo!

Hey great!  It's begun!!!!

We had a workshop here in Amsterdam last night from an author who does this every year, so it was nice to see other faces who would be participating in this area.  We are also meeting every Monday in a pub to b!tch and moan about word counts and whatnot.  Are there any groups meeting in your area?
I'll add you as a friend!  I'm looking forward to starting tonight.  Have a vague idea what to write about, but I'm sure it will change over the course of the month.

Good luck and let the writing commence!!!

and_it_spoke, I can't find the 'Author' tab anymore on the nanowrimo site.  Can you send the link to your page?

Hows it going hows it going hows it going?!?!?!

Mine is...meh.  Its not that easy churning out the words per day.  I find myself looking to just make the 1,667 words a day quota and then stopping!  At this rate, I'll never be a true writer, but some days it is easier and faster than others!

Hope everyone is getting along well!

How long does it take you to write that many words, AmandaBroooke? How about you, and_it_spoke?

So far is has depended on the part of the story that I am on.  The areas where I had clear ideas of what I wanted to say took less than 2 hours maybe?  Thats about 2 and a half pages.

The other parts where I only had a vague idea of what I wanted to say, had to research a bit online, and kind of struggled through it took more.  Maybe 4 or 6.  And thats including myspace breaks, vegweb breaks, coffee breaks etc.  :)  Just can't help myself!

Two and a half pages sounds like it should be a breeze, but its actually quite challenging getting it out there!

So far I have 13 pages written, and some pretty clearcut ideas of how I want the half a dozen pages to go.  But after that....ppfff.  No idea!  I'll go where it takes me, whenever the action starts!

Oh, no, I definitely can appreciate that 2 1/2 pages is not a breeze. One paragraph is not a breeze--and I cannot imagine writing without knowing "where it's going." I've read other writers who say the same thing. If it were me, I could probably write 'til the cows come home and never get ANYwhere.  ::)

Dunno guys....not doing to well with this?  How are you all doing, if you're still hanging in there?

I've got just over 10,000 words, so more than halfway through the month, yet only a fifth of the way through the word count.
Not looking good for Amanda!

hold up - you all rule for even giving this a shot!  i'm impressed that you're trying and sticking with it, and Amandabrooke, 10,000 words is a beautiful feat in itself!

i'm a closet budding writer, so i wanted to share a great book that comes out every year with contest, publication, etc. info - the Writer's Market.  it's about the size of a phone book and chock full of any info you'd need for submissions.  and, if you know you're only writing short stories or screenplays or any specific genre, you can check out the writer's market condensed Novel & Short Story Market or whatever, as applicable.

the books are sold on amazon.com and the 2008 edition is already available.  love words and those that knit them together - go, writers, go!  :D

Yup, have it!  Have never submitted anything there, but its sitting on my shelf (2007 edition) reminding me that it is on my to-do list, if I ever think of an article, or finish this book.
I think I will give myself the deadline of one year, and then I hope to have something to submit to an editor.
D__n that would be soooooooo great.  8)

Good luck to yourself too!  I am proud of the 10,000 words for sure, but just a bit upset at myself for not being more productive in that area this month.  :-[

Life has crushed my attempt at this.

I gave up third night in, because, well, I didn't feel human.

Work has gone from bad to worse, and I'm hardly ever on here anymore, let alone any other site (let's hear it for work Internet crackdowns! Woo!)...

Not all doom and gloom, though. I've got a premise for a story I like now. It's just not going to get done in a month.  :)

I'm glad it's going well for others. Or at least better than over here.

I wouldn't say its going better for me.  I think we're in the same boat.  I doubt any more words will be written this month, but I've got the basis of a story, so I'm still smiling.

Ah well.  Shall we try again next year?

I had wondered what happened to you. You seemed to drop of the face of the earth (well, VegWeb, anyway which is my world ::) ) after your horror movie marathon in October. Glad to see you haven't abandoned us! :) Hope things are settling down for you at work.
