Any other non-TV watching Vegwebbers out there?

We cut the cord several years ago.  I have a television & we rent movies from time to time.  Just can’t watch TV – no cable or an antenna or anything.  I know more vegetarians than people without TV.  So how bout it, anyone else out there?

I don't have TV reception.  I used to be able to say that I didn't watch any TV, but now shows are online and on DVD, so I'm a round-about TV watcher again - but without TV reception.

ME!!!  Same as you, I have a TV and DVD player for movies, but no cable and a barely functional antennae.  I haven't really watched TV since Buffy and Angel went off the air.  My daughter is a big Grey's fan and she watches that on Thursday nights.

I haven't turned mine on in about 6 months, I do watch a few things online though

I also do not have cable, just an old TV hooked up to a DVD player to watch movies...and my Buffy/Angel DVDs!  Good to know you are a fellow fan Storm!
I started out not having cable just because I couldn't afford it, but now I don't really miss it.  I think I get a lot more done in the evenings without the temptation of sitting in front of the TV all night.

I only watch TV at hotels, that way it stays fun :)

I don't watch local Spanish TV because it is dire. And we are very selective about what we record from satellite. Mostly we watch DVDs of films we know are good.

When you turn off the TV your life becomes very free.

When I lived with my parents, the TV was ALWAYS on, and I was usually watching it (or had it on, anyway). Lots of Food Network.  We get free cable with our APT, but I now only watch certain shows a couple of nights a week (maybe like 2 shows/week). I can't really stand to watch Food Network anymore, anyway. It seems like we're watching it less and less. I didn't really have any epiphany...like, "OMG...now I'm freeeeee!!."
The shows I now watch are Intervention (watch it online if I miss it on TV), and Project Runway. I might watch ANTM...but it's on at the same time as Project Runway (I think). I also can't wait for Biggest Loser!

Yeah, I finally convinced my BF to pull the plug when they increased the cable bill & took away some channels and services.  It was hard at first because  I was so used to eating in front of the TV.  TV wasn't all bad - there are some things I miss, like PBS & the HGTV.  But for me, the cons outweighed the pros.  It was just too easy to get sucked into the TV & waste an entire evening.  Now, I don't know how I ever had time to watch it.  Since I haven't had in my life for so long - I find it assaults my senses when I'm around it.  Whenever I visit friends, the TV is ALWAYS on!  It's hard to have a pleasant conversation with the TV blaring in the center of the room.  What is up with that?  TVs still have Off buttons, right?  One of my friends has a television so big, it barely fits in her living room.  The picture looks all distorted & you can't sit far enough away from it to take it all in.  When I go into a restaurant - there it is.  It's so distracting.

I agree with yabbitgirl - turning off the TV is very freeing.  No more TV show addictions, or ads that tell me I'm not good enough & I need to buy more stuff.  Oh & no more breaking, urgent "news" & storms of the century. ::)

We never had cable/satellite or anything like that. About 3 years ago, the TV remote got broken and we never replaced it. That made it so we only turned on the TV when something we wanted to watch was on--which was an hour per week (seriously, if you think you are watching too much TV, throw away the remote). Since that show no longer airs, the TV is only on for Netflix rentals (we have the 1 DVD at a time plan, so that works out to around 1-2 DVDs per week for us). We do watch the Daily Show/Colbert Report on the computer regularly though.

When the DTV transition thing happens in February, we don't plan to get a converter box--so no more "live" TV for us anymore even if we wanted to watch it. We figure that's a good thing with the baby on the way in April 'cause TV is not good for kids (especially under the age of 3).

Yeah, I don't watch TV.  I think maybe I've seen a couple episodes of The Soprano's  in the past 5 or 6 months, but that's about it.  And that was when I was out of town, up late, and had nothing else to do.

I generally watch very little tv.  I have started watching it more recently thanks to Katie.

my batteries died in my remote a long time ago, and it's amazing how big a pain it is to have to stand up and walk to the tv to change channels......lol.  Besides, tv would interfere with my vegweb time!

No TV for me either! Smooch didn't have it when I moved in with him & I didn't miss it. That was almost 6 years ago. We have 2 TVs in the house. One is for movies & the other is for X box. We go to a bar or friends house to watch football & other sports events & I occasionally flick through the channels when im on the treadmill at the gym.

Okay, I've decided!!

Z took the TV when he moved out several months ago, and I've had the satellite hooked up to nothing, thinking that I would get a new TV at some point... But I've done just fine for months now without it, so... I should really stop paying big bucks for satellite service I'm not using.

In the mean time, I've been watching a bit of Netflix here and there on my laptop, but I go to friends' houses or bars for the big stuff (DNC, sports games).

Hey, Dharmablues! Long time no post!

We bought our own satellite dishes so I could get the French channels I watch and DH could have the BBC news and stuff. I hardly even have time to sit to it, anymore. BBC Radio 4 used to be my best bud but that was when I spent 90% of my time alone. Now, we record anything we really want to watch, which in my vocabulary means mostly French films and the occasional English documentary. DH watches the news in 3 languages from 4 different countries before breakfast.

I might need this info someday (not for me personally).  Why is TV bad for kids under 3?  Knowing myself, I'd try to corrupt them with Life in the Undergrowth and Microcosmos.

I'm going to be a rebel here and say that I LOVE TV.  I have a couple favorite shows, and I like to have it on to see the news.  I do not have cable, mostly because I have to be careful with my money.  But I would have it if I had more, probably.

I actually find the internet more of a time-sucker than the TV ever was for me.  Also, since everything is on the internet these days, I'm not sure it says much to be all, "Oh, I don't watch TV, la-dee-dah!"  Yeah, no one really does.  It's all on computer.  None of my friends in college watched TV because computer took its spot.  Youtube for the boob tube.  We've traded one device for another, really.

Yes, I'd like to know as well.  I'm a big Sesame Street kid, born and raised, myself.
