Anyone NOT going to prom??

I'm not going to go to my senior prom, which is in May. People give me crazy looks when I tell them this...Instead my boyfriend & I are going to go to the city (San Francisco) & go to a nice vegetarian restaurant and then stay at a nice hotel. Is anyone else not going to their senior prom/didn't go to their senior prom?? What were your experiences?
I am not going to prom....
OH YEAH... I am 48 and no one asked me! No one really asked me "in the day" either.
Junior prom I went with my boyfriend whom I later married. BOTH were a big mistake.
Senior prom I didn't care at all either way. My best friend was Rick who is/was bi or just gay or something, had problems with his seizure meds and couldn't get me asked in time to get tickets. I told him it was the thought that counted, and it was. I was not really into high school and all its inherent BS.
Ohhh but my girls are!!!! At least prom this year is only for the seniors because the juniors screwed up and I didn't have buy shoes, make a dress, etc.
Prom was HIGHLY overated for me. I bought a way too expensive dress, met my date at prom, who decided to ignore me for the evening. I literally took pics with him and then sat at a table for like half an hour before I decided to head out.
I ate dinner in the Mickey D's parking lot (two friends and I did drive through), we changed clothes, went to the beach, attended a lame after-party and then I made out with some random guy on the beach. All in all, it really sucked ;D
I wish I would have just gone to a fabulous dinner and stayed in a great hotel!
my prom was about 25 years ago. I paid way too much for my dress, and me and my bf left early and ended up making out in his car most of the night.....
I graduated highschool at almost 16, and I figured that having never been allowed to date in highschool, if I didn't go to Prom I would get "social reject" stamped on my forehead for life. So I basically shanghaied a good friend into taking me. Disaster! He was 6 ft tall which meant he was totally unacquainted with his feet, having shot up to that height in about 6 mos. No dancing! He wasn't into "sucking face" with me either...like I said, he was shanghaied! So, after the typical pathetic pre-dance supper in a local "steak house" (the only place in the late 70's where you could get a real, sit-down meal in that tiny town without having to listen to the hog market report on the radio), me with my cheap mauve polyester "formal" and wilting blue-dyed daisy "corsage" (he'd forgotten about flowers till the last minute)...we went off to the prom. Yawn. Never mind.
This thread did remind me of an old Holly Near song whose title escapes me...she does a talking intro in which she describes herself as the prom queen with doubts about the whole thing: "As we walk into the lights, my high heeled shoes are digging into my feet....and my pushup bra is digging into my ribs. But I keep smilin', cause that's what prom queens do, is...smile."
I wish I could remember what it's from.
I never went to prom in high school. I did go to one dance that some of my friends were playing at (most of my friends were hippies, DJ's or in marching band) - I started the mosh pit :D
Of course there is always the discussion about which field the after party is going to be (yea, I'm from a small town).
i can completely relate to that one.nothing says prom party like freezing your butt off in a dark damp feild.
my prom was a totally bust. i took a huge risk and was the frist same sex couple to go to our school's prom ,just to have her fool around with some guy in the same car a was sleeping in >:(
i didn't go when i was a senior in hs.
it basically got me out of going with anyone who asked me (which was surprisingly about 3 or 4 guys). suckers.
It seems like my night out in the city with my boyfriend is out the window. We broke up last night. I guess it had to happen sometime (again), we'd been on and off since 8th grade.... :( Kinda depressing.....I guess now I don't have anything to do for "prom"....

Are you ok? That must be really disappointing. If I was around, I'd stop by with a pint of kick-ass soy ice cream and we'd watch An Affair to Remember. I've always wanted to do that... Ok, that's a little sad - maybe even more sad then the two of you breaking up. Jeez, where am I going with this? I think what I mean to say is "if you're feeling shitty about the breakup, cheer up. Your new vegweb friends will console you" or something.
come to san luis obispo and visit me, instead.
as long as it's before may 15th or something around there, because i am leaving for two months after that...

:'( I'm so sorry - I hope you're doing okay. Hang in there and know that we're all here for you.
I chose not to go to my senior prom. Instead, I drank a ton of Ballantine Ale and had a great time hanging out with some fellow longhairs in my one-room party pad in Hanover, NH. Had a waaaay better time I'm sure than most of the promgoers and I didn't even have to rent any clothes.
Jeez. That was 1979. Closing in on thirty years.

Comrade!! Three cheers for those liberated in 1979!!
I got a letter inviting me to my graduating class 30 yr reunion. I sent it back with "Are you kidding?" written across it. I'm not nice. But for me, highschool was hell. And the woman in charge of sending out the invites was one of the archdemons in that hell.
I went to my prom both my junior and senior year of highschool and I loved it! Instead of going out for expensive dinners, we had the guys make us food (which was coincidentally vegan). I guess I am a girly girl, because I love getting all glammed up, hair done, beautiful dress, perfect shoes the whole nine yards. Plus I was a party animal and the after parties rocked. I actually really enjoyed highschool.
I'm guessing that "prom" isn't such a big deal in Canada as it is in the US. I only had the option of going to one (in my last year of HS), and it wasn't such a big hurrah. I don't even know if guys were wearing tuxes - definitely suits though. I spent next to nothing on my dress, but there were girls who probably dished out a few hundred $$s for theirs - what a waste of money, in my opinion. It's about having fun, and you can absolutely look good, feel good, and have a darn good time for cheap (in a good way).
And I just had to share this with you. Although my prom was about 2 years ago, I still look back at myself in this pic... sigh. Good times.

You look very beautiful, Laura!

Gasp! How beautiful you are!
seriously, and i love the hair! too cute!
I dropped out of regular hs (couldn't handle it), so I didn't go. Its just another one of those things I gotta accept that "that's just how it goes."
