Better Food in the Fridge Soon!

WOOHOO! I am moving to a new apartment across the city in a week and a half! I am so excited I just had to share!

My boyfriend and I will be living alone, just us two. NO MORE ROOMMATES! Loud, obnoxious, and obviously meat-eating kitchen-hoggers. Nice people, I assure you... but not so nice to live with.

So, last night J and I were talking about our new place, and what food we will buy (since nobody else will be eating it on the sly or taking up space with their own yucky food). Lately I have been growing more and more lactose intolerant. Milk and ice cream just makes my stomach hurt and causes me to be really bloated. Cheese seems alright. I don't really know what the difference is. I also don't know what could be causing the intolerance... but I'm not sure I care.

He and I agreed we will just switch to soy milk completely. It's easier than buying dairy AND soy. Also, I didn't tell him but I think we'll try out some egg substitutes (suggestions on that would be very welcomed). He will eat anything as long as it tastes good, and he has become concerned about cholesterol since his dad is having a difficult time with it right now. He's showing a real desire to eat healthier now so he will have less to worry about later in life. I'm so proud of him!

Anyway, I really just wanted to share my amazement at myself. While becoming vegetarian seemed like something I would have done all along, picking out other animal products from my diet wasn't really anything I expected.... but I guess my body decided it is interested in becoming fully vegetarian (no lacto- or ovo- attatched). Yay for me and my honey!

Now to make a new grocery list.

  ::)

Congratulations! Trust me, it will be sooooo nice that when you go to get something out of the fridge, it's exactly the way you left it! :)

Hooray for figuring out what makes your body feel the best!  That's awesome!

Pat yourself on the back for that. I really hope it all works out for you.

I just went into the kitchen to do dishes, and our roommates cooked chicken last night. Since they are really gross people, of course they left ALL the chicken-grease-slimy pans and plates in the sink and on the counters. You would think they were feeding an army with the way they leave a mess!

Just to find the dishwasher I had to rinse all of their yucky stuff myself (it had gobs of food left to sit overnight), stack it up, and put it all in the dishwasher. Of course, it will take probably two more loads to finish their pots, pans, and drinking glasses. They are so wasteful! Not to mention they thawed their chicken in the sink and didn't wash it out afterward. Trust me, I could go on and on.

I am so angry and grossed out.... but just 12 days until we are out of here! Bliss is just around the corner! I think I will get some boxes and pack up a bunch more things. That will make me feel better.

Way back years ago when I was ovo-lacto I was the same way.  I could eat cheese but milk and ice cream made me sick beyond belief.

Well, the curious side of me wonders- Why? That seems so odd. I've already decided to just listen to my body- it doesn't want milk, so okay. But.... what's the difference as far as milk vs cheese vs my belly?

I did a little research.  It seems like it's just that cheese doesn't have as much lactose as the others.

Yep, my husband is the same way. Milk & icecream is horrible, a little cheese is ok, but a lot of cheese is no good either. Interestingly, he can eat yogurt just fine. Of course, I'm trying to convince him that his body doesn't want any dairy. Which reminds me to look for soy yogurt for him when I'm at the store!
