Decisions....

So I'm still new to the whole idea of veganism.

I really want the cookbook "Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World"

My quandry is that... I don't know that I would eat that many cupcakes ever...

My second moral dilemma is whether or not I should feel guity about eating said cupcakes...I mean... they're healthier than non-vegan cupcakes...right?  >:D
Anyways, who here eats lots of cupcakes and how do you justify it ? ::)

eh, I'd rather invest in a more diverse cookbook, one with a variety of recipes (for meals AND desserts) that would be used more often.

VCTOTW sounds great, but there are enough VWers around here who share their recipes. Try to keep the cupcake-making as a rare-ish treat, not too often, but just for celebrations or gatherings...they'll be more special and delicious that way...at least, that's how I justify *not* buying VCTOTW and making desserts all the time, hehh....

Beware! I went on a cupcake making binge after I bought that book. It is addicting and there is great variety. Everyone at my school was quite happy, since that's where most of them wound up!

The book does have a great variety, but I agree that you can probably find many great recipes on VW **ahem baypuppy's Carrots and Nothing Else Cake** to "practice" cupcakes on...maybe then you can figure out if you like making them, who will eat them, etc. I think you may even be able to find some of the recipes in the book by doing a google search.

I actually think its a great book to have, and I use the recipes to make cakes too.
You will be really popular when you show up to parties with a tray full of cupcakes!  8)
I usually only make them when I know there will be other people to enjoy them too. If you have the $, get it!

The mistake many vegans make is that just because it's vegan it's good for you.

On the other hand, who doesn't like cupcakes.

Moderation.

Maybe you can make them and bring them to work/school/church/family and not eat them yourself.

you might be able to find a cheap copy on ebay or used on amazon.  i think it is a good book to have cus it does have so many interesting and yummy recipes.  i also like that theyre usually in batches of 12 or so which means that you're not stuck with an outrages amount of dessert.  ask for it for christmas - its a good little stocking stuffer size...  i got mine from a cupcake loving friend, it was pretty much his way of getting me to make and give him cupcakes more often.  a gift for both of us!

Be prepared to spend a lot of money on special ingredients for the cupcakes, too. Almost all of them require something special.  Which isn't to say I don't LOVE the book, but you know.  It's something nice to have even if you don't use it often/

I tend to agree with CW, though.  Since you are transitioning to veganism, something like Veganomicon would be a great investment!  It has lots of decent dessert recipes as well.

thanks for the advice!  I think I may get veganomicon first though....

Yeah, I would recommend getting a different book, first. I think the cook/bakebook I use the most is Joy of Vegan Baking..or Tofu Cookery. I rarely use my V-Con!

I never really feel bad about what I'm eating...as long as I know I'm eating healthfully/enough/balanced. My body lets me know.

I don't make a lot of cupcakes though......brownies!

I try to get any cookbook from the library before purchasing it. If you'll pardon the warped expression, "One man's meat is another man's poison"  - some people love recipes/cookbooks that I hate, and visa-versa.

I'm currently trying to clean out my personal collection of books that I bought without following my own advice (above) and being disappointed.

Check it out, make a few recipes, then your decision will be much easier.

And, don't forget to ask your library about interlibrary loan if the book isn't in their collection.

try this:  http://www.theppk.com/veganwithavengeance.html

it's by the same force that brought you the vegan cupcake book you are wanting...  but it's more diverse and will be a healthier step in becoming vegan...

good luck.  we are all here in support.

Thanks a lot guys.  The library advice is actually really good, not sure why I haven't thought of that.
