You are here

Five interesting things people don't know about you.

Go!

1.  I collect mugs, miniature books, and state quarters.
2.  I have this idea in my head for a cafe with these mini cake desserts.  (But not cupcakes; it's different.)  I came up with it freshman year.  I even have some sketches of it in my sketchbook.  Top secret stuff.
3.  I was born with cerebral palsy because the umbilical cord got wrapped around my neck, but it's very very mild.  Many people with CP have trouble walking or speaking, but mine only left me with a very slight limp in my right foot and some random difficulties playing the violin.  No one notices unless I tell them, that's how minor it is.  I was pretty lucky.
4.  I really love corsets.  Love 'em.  But I don't own one yet.  Call me anti-feminist.  Sorry, ok!
5.  I am good at spelling.  I went all the way to the local televised bee (NOT the big one, the Syracuse one) in eight grade, and it was pretty fly.  Now I love crosswords.  I credit my grandfather, who used to write crossword puzzles.  :)

Ok, everyone shared deeply personal things, so I feel obligated to do so as well.

In 1991 my first boyfriend died, in Dessert Storm.  He was one of the 20 some odd Marines killed by friendly fire.  His picture was on the cover of time.  I still have a copy of the magazine, plus all those high school love letters.   I always think that my life would have turned out differently if he had lived.

*gives everyone a big hug*  No matter what you are all awesome and I think you are all great friends.

That' must have been tough.  Hugs to you.

((((Cali)))) I'm so sorry! Your story gives me chills.  I don't know why, it is just so upsetting.  I hate f*cking wars.

And Oktokrewl, damn girl, you have been through a lot in your 26 years!  All those experiences make us stronger.  You guys are all amazing!

And slightly less depressing, I once attended an OzzFest here in CT (sometime in the last 4 years) and got my chest airbrushed and walked around topless.  It was very freeing.  I highly recommend it!

Being that I'm flat chested, people would think, "Why'd that dude spray his chest?"  Is this an EFF discussion?  I love being topless when I'm working in the summer - it's so much cooler.  I have man-envy that they can be topless for much of a day without legal problems.  Do they just spray your chest, or do they spray on art, like face painting?  I've never been to such an event.

It was an artistic airbrush solar system.  It was fun but yeah, most of the other gals walking around painted were tiny little things with very small chests.  There I was chunky and DD's.  hahah  As we walked out LB made me put on a bikini top at least because I didnt want to.

Thank you everyone for the kind words and thoughts.  Its been 17 years now but I do remember the important dates when they roll by.  Loss is never easy, but time does help.

I was tough for me to find anything interesting about myself to post.

1.  I couldn't decide between arts and science in college so I double majored in dance and biology and minored in philosophy.  I used to joke that I had the whole "mind, body, and spirit" curriculum.  I was the only dancing biologist at my college.  :)

2.  I can't stand when someone is walking behind me while I'm going up stairs.  Even if it's someone I know.  I have to speed up or step aside and let them pass me.  It gives me the chills.

3.   I'm terrified of large, natural, bodies of water.  Like the ocean or a lake, river, etc.  I can't stand not being able to see what's around me and the vastness of it scares me.  In the same sense, I don't like boats.  Movies like "Open Water" are my nightmare.

4.   Along those lines, I can't swim.  I keep meaning to learn but just never have.  Since I don't go into the water that much it's not really a problem.

5.   On a more personal level.  My mom's side of the family has a history of problems with child birth.  My great grandmother died in childbirth and so did my grandmother.  My mother almost died having me.  It doesn't give me a lot of confidence about future children.

I'm another one who doesn't do well with change. I want big things in my life - big changes too - but once I get rolling with something, I just can't seem to get out. I get into a state of inertia. It's a weird, unhealthy thing.

As long as you do it, anyway, eh?  I hate change, but I seem to regularly create change in my life.  It just takes more courage to do than for a "normal" person.  Actually, it's not that noble for me.  I move forward and resign myself to my fate.

Hey, that's EXACTLY the same for me! When I do change (or create change), I should pat myself on the back because it's A LOT harder for me than most other people.

That's interesting, because I LOVE change.  I don't ever want to do the same job for more than, say, 5 years.  I love moving and I don't mind leaving behind old people for new people (though I keep in touch with the old people).  I was SO excited to graduate high school and college because it was like, "Hey, something new!"

This is totally me too!!  I can't stand to be in one place for too long...i suppose that's part of the reason I get bored with things...and I don't mind leaving old people behind either, people move on, its part of life...

oh and AC and KMK thanks for thinking false  :)

I love this thread  :)>>>  I feel like I know you all just a wee bit more.

Good glory!  VeganSapien is woman, hear her roar!  That's amazing!

LOL!  Yes, I was definitely roaring loudly at the time...

And AC, no I was not scared at all...I don't know why.  It was one of the few things in my life that I knew was capable of doing.

I am still freaking out about your "accident"...that is an amazing story.  I keep wanting to ask you what you plan to do next, but I don't want to seem to pushy.

I am the exact same way!!!!
I can go the same route a hundred times and still get lost. I often question if I am going the right way so I turn around and then get even more lost. I used to have nightmares about getting stuck on highways and not knowing where I am going. I still get all confused at on and off ramps sometimes.
The GPS has been a godsend for  me! I recommend that you get one!!!!

i also work better with a hand drawn map than i do with written driving directions. I like to look at the map and rotate it as I make turns.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with this lovable flaw. If I ever move to a big city again, I should definitely invest in a GPS. And I do the handdrawn maps too. L2A you rock!

Once when I lived in Houston, I missed an exit on the 610 loop, so rather than try to get off at another one and turn around, I just went around the whole loop until I found it again. Lame.

Oh wow. This thread has been a joy to read. Seriously. I can relate to so much.

1. I have a slight case of anthropophobia (fear of people or society). I'm OK at work and the bar my bf owns (when he's there) because those places and people are familiar to me, but I start to freak out if I'm around a bunch of people I don't know, like at a mall or concert. I'm afraid one dumbass will start trouble resulting in a violent domino effect. I do not trust people and their mob mentalities at all.

2. My best friend in the whole world died on Jan. 1, 2004. I had such admiration and respect for my dad. Life is not as enjoyable without him.

3. I still have no clue what I want to be when I grow up. This is my biggest peeve. I get grand ideas and then I simply lose interest. I feel like something is wrong with me in this aspect, like a fear of committment or success...or something.

4. I'm a fan of guy on guy action, men that wear eyeliner, and men with feminine features, but I'm not a lesbian and my boyfriend resembles none of this. It's just my little fetish. His fetish is beehive hairstyles. I don't get it.  ;D

5. I've always wanted to do a professional artistic nude photo spread. I'm not gettin' any younger so I had better get on with it, huh?

1.  I'm very scared of fire, and when I was little I prayed every night our house wouldn't catch on fire

I did this too!  I also kept a few special things by the bed, so that I could grab them quickly in case of a fire.  Luckily, my fear has become a little more rational.

Pink - those are beautiful! Tell your bf so! I'd guess you're the #2 nude, just because of the short hair, but I could be totally wrong.

A couple years ago I took some nudies of myself and sent them to my dh via email as a surprise (boy was he surprised!). In fact, that's where my pre-preg belly came from in my gallery (I just cropped it for this site). They are nice to have....they are just in a secret place on my computer. I let my gay boyfriend borrow some so he can attract guys on the net  >:D Is that bad?  At least I will have proof I once had a decent body if mine never gets back to normal after this pregnancy! :D

I'm a little late and I'm upset because I was mostly done posting this a little while ago, but accidentally closed the screen.   >:(

1.  I am atheist.  I don't tell many people that.

2.  I HATE talking on the phone.  I used to talk on the phone for hours on end when I was in middle and high school, now I rarely answer my phone.  Everyone gives me a hard time about it and takes it personally. :^

3.  When I was in the 3rd grade, I caught a fellow female classmate watching me pee at a urinal through a window (our bathrooms had windows on the ground level that kids and adults could peer through...seriously?).  I haven't used a urinal since.  If a stall is occupied in a public restroom and all urinals are free to use, I wait for the stall to be unoccupied.

4.  I'm not afraid of many things, such as dying or snakes or spiders etc., etc., but I have a strange fear of bees, wasps, hornets...anything that flies and can cause pain.  You can bet your bottom dollar that if a bee or whatever is buzzing around in a room that I will be on my way to a different room.  I think these little creatures know this because they tend to fly right up in front of my face and hang around for a minute as if to say "we can taste your fear.  Go ahead, make a move."

5.  I almost drowned in a public pool once.  I also almost got my head knocked off by a bus while I was walking to an Atlanta Braves game.  I had seen something in the road that I wanted to give to my stepdad for some reason...he is the one who pulled me out of harm's way.
Thanks, Randy.

I'll probably think of more later...

By the way, I can turn anything into something dirty as well. :P

Those are amazing, Pink!  I am gonna go with laura's pick and agree that you are 2.  If so, awesome... :)>>>  I am taking a photography course in the fall and I hope I get to do some cool stuff like that.

I just remembered... I made him take them off, so I'm not in the naked section anymore. I'm in the portrait section, but it's when I had longer hair. And VS, I have no doubts that you'll take amazing photos. You're obviously gifted in food photography, so I'm sure you'll do just fine w/ portraits and such.
