How sad is this?

OK, so I got used to seeing gazpacho in cartons a few years ago (how hard is it to zip stuff in the blender?)

But I went to the supermarket and couldn't believe my eyes. Individual portions of cooked white rice?? In tinfoil pots?

Weird.

Processed foods: adulterated, poorly prepared foods that need huge advertising campaigns to convince the lazy consumer that they "need" them. And the lazy consumer responds with cash.

That potato salad sounds soooooo gross.

About the plastic wrapped potatoes for the microwave, they're great!  My father-in-law works at a potato plant and they have them.  They are not altered in anyway and dont have anything added to them.  It's just that the plastic theyre in makes it like a baked potato, but in the microwave and only takes like 7 minutes instead of an hour.  So i'm not totally against those.

About the prunes, I've never seen them, and I think it's ridiculous!  If you want to sell them in a tube so that people buy a bunch at a time, instead of one or 2, fine.  But do you really need to individually wrap them too?  Have people never heard of pollution?  Cuz it's not like all that plastic film is just going to turn magically into compost!  Sorry, I got a little carried away, lol.

It always grosses me out when I shop at regular grocery stores because everyone ahead of and behind me has their carts loaded with the garbage described in this thread.

Pre-sliced celery has always gotten to me.  Chopping up a stalk of celery takes what...10 seconds?

Those piss me off too--same with the chopped onions and sliced tomatoes--seriously! You can't slice a freaking tomato?? *shakes head in disgust* people are so lame!

along the lines of "you can't slice a tomato?"  My sister is 17, going on 18, getting married this upcoming May (I really hopes she comes to her senses, but that's just me).... and she doesn't use knives.  My mom still cuts up ALL of her food for her.

Does your mom feed her too?

I like the prechopped food.  If I'm out doing fieldwork and I want more food, I like the option of stopping by a grocery store and picking up a healthy snack

lol, no, surprisingly.  I asked her how she plans on cooking when she lives on her own if she won't use a knife.  She said wither her husband will do it, or she'll eat stuff out of the microwave. SO healthy.  She also won't drink water, and until last year thought turkey came from a cow.  She should really spend more time studying...less time thinkin bout boys...

I just had a terrible thought.  One I probably shouldn't share but I'm going to anyway.  >:D  You can always put her wedding photo up on the Fail site.  It sounds like she's heading for an EPIC FAIL.  Marriage is the hardest thing most people will ever do and she's going into it totally ill-equipped to even live much less take care of a husband and herself.  Most men are not going to put up with a wife who won't cook.  Guys are expected to share in all the household duties now days and so should the wife.  Expecting him to do all the cooking or live off junk from the microwave is just WRONG.

Oh please, if she can dress herself she can cut her own food. I assume she CAN dress herself, you know, tie shoes, button buttons, work a zip and all? ::)

I'm guilty of buying the individually wrapped potatoes and the chopped celery.  I don't think there's anything wrong with this- I'm all for anything that makes fruits & vegetables more appealing and convenient for the average American!  It's certainly better than grabbing some chips or cookies...

'Fraid I've bought the sachets of cooked rice several times, for lunches at work. Some early mornings I grab some beans, etc. from the freezer and have no time to cook rice to eat 'em with, so I buy the stuff at work. I don't like to - it's damned expensive. Just gotta learn to plan ahead! ::)

Personally I think that if pre-sliced vegetables helps people to eat and buy them then I'm all for them.  I'd rather people buy those then totally skip the veg section.

O.K. I confess to buying pre-diced tomatoes to make bruschetta for my last dinner party.  ::)

I've seen individually wrapped hot dogs that you can put in the microwave.  Why can't you just take one hotdog out of the package of 8 and put it in the microwave?

When  I was in Costa Rica, we were providing lunch for some children in a slum area, and we peeled about..... 500 of those individually wrapped hot dogs. I have no idea why.
