With the holiday rapidly approaching, it's getting to be crunch time for buying presents. Which made me think last night, "if I could have one present that wasn't material in nature, what would it be?" For me, it would be that I would wake up one morning and there would be no more animal or child abuse in the world. Without getting more specific, that would be the greatest gift I could ever have. The destruction of innocence is the one source of evil in humans that seemingly never ends. And what a "Wonderful Life" it would be if it could be replaced with love and compassion.
I would absolutely love to have a day with my dad (he died 21 years ago). I don't know if I'd even say anything...I just to hug him the entire time. Also, to see how differently he would look at age 56 than at 35. Maybe like getting a picture show as to how he would've aged through out the years since I'm not sure if what I remember from my childhood is accurate.

That's what I was going to say. It pretty much covers the waterfront, so to speak. To me, world peace definitely includes "no more senseless, selfish killing and harming of our world, animal, and people.
To have all the stray and unloved animals to find homes with lots of love, good food, warm fires and lots of tummy rubs.
We're having a stray crisis here - my neighbors have tossed out their 2 cats >:( and my office recently moved to a new location and there are 6! strays there :'( :'( :'( and that's not counting all those that are passing through... :-\

Anyways, now that I'm done stroking SB's troll ego--when I first read the thread title I was like "OMG, I sooooo totally want an IPOD!" but then I actually read the post and was like "Oh sh*t, I'm not as nice as these people!" but seriously, I think I would just want all the government corruption to end--stop messing with our food and animals and make a little peace for once!

My non-material wish for Christmas is to have my two favorite rescue dogs at work get adopted. Simon (http://www.pawplacement.org/?A=0000001982) and Darcy (http://www.firstgiving.com/seniordal). If we could have a dog (or two or three) right now, they would join our household in a second, but unfortunately we can't :'( These two dogs are just so sweet, mellow, and loving, especially considering all that they've been through--they may not be cute bouncy puppies, but they still have a lot to give and deserve so much affection in return. I have my fingers crossed!

my personal (more selfish) vote would be to make mental illness disappear. no more depression, etc etc for anyone.
can you tell my depression is settling in? shesh.... imagine a world where everyone had mental clarity and security. i bet THAT would solve some of the above issues ;)

I would like to never see an animal in distress. Unloved, starving, mistreated/abused. I would like the world to appreciate spaying and neutering.
I would like no child to ever feel hunger, not being loved or abused in any way.
I would like all animal cruelty offenses to have stricter punishment. I would like to see all pedophiles locked up for life so that they couldn't re-offend.
I too, would love world peace. Makes me think of the movie Miss Congeniality. I love that movie.
I would love 'progress' to slow down so we don't turn the world into one cement parking lot. Taking land away from the natural inhabitants. All the wild animals losing all of their space.
I would like to see humans being humane. Appreciating and loving nature, animals and their fellow human beings.
Mostly, I would love to feel I was not born in to a world that enjoys cruelty and who doesn't give a rat's a** what is happening beyond their backyard.
No living creature should feel pain, abuse, degradation, hunger or being unloved.
OK, I guess that was more than one thing.
I also really want circuses to go away, the seal hunt to end, canned hunting to end and pet over population to end.

P.S. I would also like people to stop asking me why I rescued a dog from Mexico and then a dog from Greece when there are so many here that need homes. My response has always been, an animal saved is an animal saved. Love knows no boundaries. I don't even like to tell people I sponsor a little girl in Honduras through Foster Parents Plan Canada because I don't want to justify that either. A life is a life. End of story.
